Ph.D. in Finance
The Ph.D. in finance offers students with opportunities to develop and refine skills necessary for significant financial research paving their way into a successful career in academia and research organizations. By working closely with our accounting and finance faculty in research, students gain a strong understanding of the theoretical foundations of finance – both conventional and Islamic, and an intimate knowledge of the theoretical and empirical research literature. The breadth of areas of specialisation includes studies in funds management, risk management, asset pricing, financial markets, initial public offerings, corporate finance, accounting numbers and valuation, real estate finance, treasury management, Islamic banking and finance, and commercial and investment banking.
A thesis containing up to 100,000 words on an agreed topic under supervision. The thesis carries 40 modular credits. Although the programme is based entirely on research, students upon recommendation by their respective supervisor/ programme leader may be directed to take some postgraduate modules relevant to their research topic.
Full time – 3-5 years
Part time – 5-7 years
