PhD Electrical and Computer Engineering

The goal of the Ph.D. degree is to cultivate world-class innovative leaders who can work in international universities or research institutes. A Ph.D. degree is given in recognition of a student’s outstanding knowledge and innovative capability in a specific field. JI encourages innovative research and focuses on influential high-impact projects. It seeks collaboration with government and industry partners to achieve international impact. It also encourages international cooperation and exchange, through short-term exchange programs and international conference participation.


The academic requirements to complete a Ph.D. degree are similar to those prescribed found at major US universities.

Financial Aid


Several Financial aid packages are available. Applicants can apply for financial supports from one or more of the following resources:

1. Chinese Government Special Scholarship:


• Students are exempt from tuition fee, fee for learning materials and fee for dormitory on campus;

• A living stipend is provided (2,000 RMB/month);

• One-off new arrival starting support 1,500 RMB/person;

• To provide out-patient medical fees and Chinese Government Scholarship Foreign Students Medical Insurance 600 RMB/person/year.


2. Shanghai Government Foreign Student Scholarship (A):

• Students are exempt from tuition fee, and fee for dormitory on campus;

• A living stipend is provided (2,000 RMB/month);

• Critical illness insurance; accident insurance


3. Scholarship for International Students in Shanghai Jiaotong University (A)

 

• Students are exempt from tuition fee

• A living stipend is provided (2,000 RMB/month)

• Settlement fee of RMB 5,500 will be granted at the beginning of every semester
