Administration

The PhD is a doctoral degree, specifically called a "doctor of philosophy" degree. This is misleading because PhD holders are not necessarily philosophers (unless they earned their degree in philosophy!). That said, PhD recipients are able to engage in thought experiments, reason about problems, and solve problems in sophisticated ways.

The United States of America is a large country in Northern America, often known as the "USA", the "US", the "United States", "America", or simply "the States". It also gathers over 310 million people which is the world's third largest population. It includes densely populated cities with sprawling suburbs, and vast, uninhabited and naturally beautiful areas at the same time.

Doctorate Programs in Administration in North America 2017. The UIC Liautaud PhD program in Business Administration trains future scholars in business statistics, organizational behavior/human resource management, and marketing. While students are accepted into an area of specialization, they are given the flexibility to design an individual program of study and are encouraged to take a more interdisciplinary approach within the area of specialization. The PhD in Business Administration prepares students for careers as professors in public and private universities or industry. The program helps students develop: A thorough grounding in research skills and the fundamental concepts of business and related social science disciplines Original knowledge in the specific area of research A spirit of inquiry and lifelong learning Ideal candidates are bright and highly motivated individuals with outstanding verbal and quantitative aptitude seeking an academic research and teaching career within business administration. Areas of Inquiry Business StatisticsUIC Liautaud Graduate School of Business PHD BA booklet The Business Statistics Area-of-Inquiry combines an advanced program in statistics with training in a second field, chosen from such fields as accounting, economics, finance, marketing, MIS, or operations management. Students are trained in the use of state-of-the art computer software and, depending on individual interest, a combination of applied statistics, data analysis, econometrics, finance and predictive analytics/data mining. Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management Our program is highly focused on research. Students are required to take seminars on OB, HR, research methods, statistics, and electives from our department as well as other departments on campus, such as psychology, sociology, and educational psychology. In terms of major requirements, students are required to write a qualifying paper (a research paper of publishable quality), take a comprehensive exam, and write a dissertation. Marketing Students are required to take seminars on core topics in marketing and entrepreneurship, in addition to courses on research methods, statistics, and electives from other departments on campus, such as psychology, sociology, and educational psychology. Entry Requirements The UIC Liautaud Graduate School of Business uses a competitive selection process to identify highly motivated professionals looking to take their career to the next level. Prerequisites Master of Business Administration (MBA): we expect incoming students to have a statistics course with regression analysis within their academic history. This course may be taken before entering the program or during the first semester of study.

Academic Record A business-related undergraduate degree is not required to be admitted to our masters programs. Applicants should have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0/4.0. If you are an international student, you are required to submit official transcripts and degree certificates so that we are able to verify the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree. Work Experience Work experience is an important criterion for being selected for the UIC Liautaud MBA program as we strive to create an environment where students learn from the professional experiences of one another.  This creates a dynamic learning environment which enhances the student’s overall experience in the program. Specialized master’s degree programs (MSA, MIS) do not use work experience as part of their selection criteria. Test Scores GMAT: Our average GMAT score for each incoming class is approximately 600, across all programs. Our typical score range is 500-700. The score is important as it helps determine your ability to perform well in our courses.

Please note that we do not waive these exams in lieu of work experience, prior degrees earned, prior academic performance/ GPA, or any other factors. GMAT and GRE scores are valid for up to 5 years. Please contact the testing company for full details.
