The PhD in biology aims at acquiring and deepening the necessary knowledge and skills to advanced research in biology. Research projects are carried out in key areas such as genetics in animal populations, adaptive biology, forest ecology, dynamics of wildlife populations and evolutionary biology. Offered jointly with the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM), the program includes budget management training objectives and people as well as pedagogy. Program Structure The PhD in biology involves the writing of a dissertation of 76 credits to deepen a topic in biology field of specialization. As part of the training, the candidates will develop an analytical mind and the theoretical thinking skills able to advance their research. This research brings together researchers interested in northern environments from an interdisciplinary perspective around closely complementary disciplines, including biology, ecology, chemistry and geography, human or physical, cold environments. Their research aims to better understand the functioning of continental environments in cold climates, so as to meet the major challenges in the field of conservation and sustainable management. The evolution of continental northern environments in the context of global change and relations between Northern environments and human societies are among the prominent issues. OBJECTIVES The general objective of the program is to enable the acquisition and deepening of disciplinary knowledge in biology. More specifically, the PhD is to develop the skills of students in terms of advanced research in biology in order to complete their training as scientists. In addition, the program requirements will bring the candidates to develop an analytical mind and the theoretical thinking skills able to advance their research. Joining as a concern of the Council of Universities and a real need as expressed by many workers out of traditional molds, budget management training and personal goals as well as education are included in the program.
