You will be supported by a first supervisor, who will offer specialised guidance, and a second supervisor, who will provide a more general overview of your studies. Depending on your qualifications and experience, you may register for an MPhil with the option to progress to a PhD or register for the PhD directly. As well as regular meetings with your supervisors, there will be an annual review of progress by means of a formal submission to the faculty’s research committee. The University also delivers a programme of seminars and workshops exploring approaches to research which you are encouraged to attend. There is also a student research forum which provides an opportunity to discuss with peers any aspect of research you want - students create the agenda. You will also be invited to deliver academic papers to faculty research events if you so wish. About the course The EdD is designed to cause minimum disruption to your professional commitments and responsibilities. It will provide an opportunity to delve deeply into policy and practice and an opportunity to examine in depth a specific area of interest via a dissertation. You will be encouraged to shape the learning materials towards your own specialism and is therefore relevant across all sectors from early years through to higher education. Special features For some, a partly taught doctorate will provide an opportunity to complement their employment and/or interests within a research framework but within a more efficient format than an independent research project, the traditional PhD. What you will learn Students' will develop a high level of academic writing and data collection. What topics will students study on the course? As a research degree one can’t specify but will be in general areas of educational policy and practice and research methodologies. What about teaching, learning and assessment methods? Classes held on three Saturdays and will include seminars, face-to-face teaching and new technologies. Also, open Friday morning PGR student sessions. Assessment will be only on written work. Entry requirements You should have a masters-level qualification in an education related subject and/or a Bachelor’s degree with a first classification.
