Doctoral Programme in Leaders for Technical Industries The Leaders for Technical Industries (LTI) doctoral program within the Engineering Design and Advanced Manufacturing (EDAM) focus area of the International Partnership MIT Portugal is offered by the University of Minho (School of Engineering, EEUM), University of Lisbon (Técnico Lisboa, IST), and the University of Porto (Faculty of Engineering, FEUP). This program is anchored on multidisciplinary research problems, lying within an Engineering Systems framework. The LTI PhD program considers that product and process innovation and current complex decision-making must also take into account economics, management and social aspects. This perspective is evident in the program’s structure, which groups the courses into clusters such as Design and Technology (three courses), Engineering Systems (four courses), Engineering Management (four courses), and Leadership. As an academic program designed to be in close connection with technically advanced industries, the students must complete an internship for the development of integrated research in an industrial environment. Industrial experience of candidates will be a preferential selection criterion. Other technical education background may be considered (e.g., physics or math), based on relevant curriculum. Admissions Requirements Candidates for the PhD in Engineering Management should possess a master’s or bachelor’s degree in engineering or closely related discipline. A cumulative GPA of at least a 3.5 (4.0 scale) will be required for admission. A GRE score from the last five years, with a combined verbal and quantitative score of at least an 1100 will be required for consideration. GRE revised test conversion chart. Candidates below established GPA and GRE requirements will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Candidates whose primary language is not English will be required to demonstrate proficiency in English. Candidates with a master’s degree will complete 30 credits at the 600 and 700 level and a 27-credit dissertation for 57 total credits.
