PDEng in Design and Technology of Instrumentation Welcome to the website of “Design and Technology of Instrumentation.” DTI offers a two year post-masters course on Technological Design for graduates with a master’s degree in the field of physics, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering and similar disciplines. Like a doctoral candidate, you will have the status of TU/e employee if you are selected for one of this program. The goal of the program is to train you to become a professional technological designer in industry. The program consists of a course program and three projects in industry (two smaller ones, and one year project). The program leads to a Professional Doctorate in Engineering (PDEng degree). The program is part of 4TU.School for Technological Design, Stan Ackermans Institute, a joint initiative of the three universities of technology in the Netherlands. CCTO Certification This program is recognized as a PDEng program by the CCTO, the Dutch certification institute for technological designer programs. Career opportunities Alumni of the DTI programme generally find a job in a high-tech company. The organizational and project skills acquired are an excellent starting point for a career in a challenging and highly competitive industrial environment, with great responsibility and rewards. The Ph.D. programme in BioRobotics aims at educating highly competent researchers with the potential to be leaders in this area. The students will be educated in a stimulating and multidisciplinary environment, both through high level courses and through a demanding, creative and original research work. Doctoral research projects will be carried on in very well equipped, state-of-the-art laboratories (in such fields as bio-robotics, micro- and nano-technology, biomimetics, prosthetics) and through personal and team work performed under the supervision of a committed full-time faculty. The students will investigate how biological systems work from an engineering viewpoint, and will make use of such knowledge to pursue challenging research projects aimed at modeling, designing and building novel components and systems for biomedical applications, such as surgery and rehabilitation. The accomplishments of the students will be assessed by the number of papers published in peer reviewed international journals and by the number of patents filed. At the end of the Ph.D. programme, students will possess solid scientific and engineering skills, the ability to conceive and carry out original research projects, and an autonomous entrepreneurship spirit. Students are admitted to Ph.D. in BioRobotics further to a successful entrance examination. Eligible applicants must hold a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree or equivalent title. Undergraduate students may also apply if they graduate before the beginning of the Course. The Ph.D. Programme in BioRobotics is a three-year program of advanced studies and supervised research; after the end of the Programme, the Diploma di Perfezionamento is conferred to students who have fulfilled the didactic requirement and passed a final examination with thesis dissertation; the Diploma di Perfezionamento is the equivalent of a Ph.D degree. Our programmes offer you the opportunity to mix with composers, sound designers, film-makers, technologists, theorists, visual artists and curators. During your time with us, you become part of our specialist community, exchanging ideas and developing your own creative and intellectual interests, informed by expert academic staff. The School of Music and Fine Art is situated on the University of Kent's Medway campus. Facilities include purpose-built recording studios, post-production rooms, rehearsal spaces, workstations and seminar rooms. There is a professionally designed 5.1 recording and compositional space and a spatial audio studio. In addition, there is a multi-loudspeaker sound diffusion system for the performance of sonic art and live electronics. Our location on the Chatham Historic Dockyard provides interesting and unique spaces for concerts, performances and sound installations, with further venues on the other parts of the campus and in the surrounding area. Our students explore both the creative and technical aspects of music and its related technologies and also have the opportunity to work collaboratively with practitioners from other arts subjects.
