The EdD (Dual Award) programme is unique in SouthEast Asia in drawing on the expertise in professional practice and research of two major higher education institutions, the National Institute of Education, Singapore, and the University of London's Institute of Education. Not only does it offer an international perspective on issues of professionalism and leadership in education but by bringing together a diverse student population from a number of countries and different areas of education, allows for a rich and lively learning environment. It is designed for experienced practitioners who would like to strengthen their professional expertise and develop competence in researching and assessing educational practice. These range from senior administrators in schools, higher educational institutes and governmental bodies to experienced teachers and academic staff in colleges and universities.
The programme is offered on a part-time basis, with special consideration for the needs and commitments of full-time and international students. Its coursework component is offered through a combination of face-to-face intensive one-week blocks, and of written correspondence with the instructor in the following months when you are working on your assignments. Opportunities are also built in for you to continue interacting with other students in your programme once your coursework is completed and you are working on your major research projects.
What renders the EdD Dual Award programme particularly attractive and makes it one of its kind is the flexibility that it allows for your choice of home institution. You can make NIE or IoE your home institution, i.e., the university where you complete the coursework component and the Institution Focused Study, and then switch to the other institution (dual institution) in your last year of study to complete your research-based thesis.
