The EdD program's mission in Educational Leadership is to enhance the knowledge, skills, and dispositions of candidates to allow them to become educational leaders who promote effective school improvement.

William Howard Taft University offers three distinct online Ed.D. programs. Ed.D. – with a Concentration in Leadership & Management This program emphasizes course work in leadership and management in a variety of educational and public service settings. The Program is of particular interest to individuals with public or private school teaching experience who seek administrative positions or middle-level managers who are interested in moving into higher levels of administration. Ed.D. – with a Concentration in Educational Technology & Leadership The Educational Technology Concentration provides students with a solid foundation of advanced concepts in instructional design, management, laws and ethics, and emerging trends as they apply to the use of technology in a variety of educational settings. Ed.D. – with a Concentration in Charter School Administration The Charter School Administration Concentration will be of particular interest to educators and administrators looking to advance their knowledge of charter school administrative requirements. The curriculum incorporates facilities management, marketing, and legal considerations for charter school operations.

The Ed.D. in Educational Leadership is a doctoral degree designed for leaders throughout the state at all educational levels. Courses emphasizing leadership in the areas of philosophical/sociological development, institutional organization, curriculum/instruction, school improvement, research, and statistics are required in the program. Additional emphasis will be provided as a cognate of advanced courses in a career choice of the candidate. The program is a joint doctorate in Educational Leadership between A&M-Kingsville and A&M-Corpus Christi, and students may attend classes on both campuses. Professors from both universities may serve as instructors and advisers for participants in the program.

The Capital Area North Doctorate in Educational Leadership program is designed to prepare exemplary educational leaders in schools, community colleges, and related educational capacities that reside in the greater Sacramento Valley, Bay Area, and Northern California. Graduates of this program are prepared to lead for change in educational environments that promote learning, equity, and achievement for all students

The Doctorate in Education, in its non-school modality, consists of four phases or periods, which can be completed in two years. However, each student can take it in more or fewer months, depending on the time they dedicate to each subject. The maximum length of stay in each phase or period is one year. In addition, there is a preparatory course to prepare participants who do not have prior training for educational research.

The Ed.D. program in Contemporary Curriculum Theory and Instruction: literacy provides students with a strong core in literacy, theory, research, and practice to cultivate scholarly and reflective practitioners prepared to promote culturally-responsive, effective literacy learning across diverse contexts.

The Doctor of Education (EdD) degree in Instructional Leadership prepares experienced educators to become effective practitioner leaders able to translate current research into policy and practice.

Our doctoral candidates often enter the HSU Doctorate in Leadership program with well-developed character and years of experience. Our doctoral program is designed to promote further character development and organizational and educational theories to real-world organizations and teaching functions.

A student registered for a research doctoral program must complete the study program within six years. A student may apply to the Registrar for one additional year of study, which will only consider the application if recommended by the Executive Dean of the College in which the student is registered.

The Doctor of Education 60-credit-hour program explores the great idea of education and offers students a grounding in the historical, social, and philosophical literature. Prospective students must demonstrate superior scholarship in the field of education. The program is appropriate for educational practitioners seeking relevant and advanced study that will make them more thoughtful teachers and better informed decision makers. Students study both classic and leading contemporary thought taken from educational and philosophical literature. The program draws on intellectual sources and scholarly disciplines, including curriculum theory, history, law, and philosophy.
