It comprises seven subjects that will allow the student to deepen the tools of the core of the discipline (microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics) essential for conducting economic research at the frontier of knowledge. The cycle concludes with the presentation of a comprehensive examination of economic knowledge and the preparation of a preliminary research proposal that will serve as the foundation of the Doctoral Thesis.
Cycle II (28 credits): Deepening (one year)
It comprises seven subjects divided into three categories: economic development, deepening subjects (in which the student can focus on the most specific tools to advance their research agenda) and research seminars. At the end of this cycle the student must have defined their research proposal and submitted a first progress in the form of a publishable article to the program management.
Cycle III (40 credits): Research (two years)
The credits are dedicated exclusively to the Doctoral Thesis Seminar subject. The student will develop the accumulated research potential throughout the first half of the program and will benefit from the feedback obtained when presenting his research in the department's seminar, as well as the possibility of making a stay abroad. The cycle concludes with the support of the Doctoral Thesis, composed of three self-contained research articles.
Profile of the applicant
The Program is aimed at economists as well as professionals from other disciplines of national and foreign universities with a high motivation to deepen their investigative skills under the accompaniment of first level teachers in one of the best economics departments in the country.
The success in the subjects of the Program depends, to a great extent, on the academic aptitudes with which the student counts, his passion for learning and his interest in research. It also requires a broad availability of time, as well as a sound management of English that allows you to access the global frontier of economic knowledge.
Graduates of the Doctorate in Economics will have managed to demonstrate a high level of understanding and management of the main theoretical and empirical tools applied in current research.
They will also have certified their abilities to create knowledge through the contributions contained in their Doctoral Theses. These contributions will enrich the research areas of the applicant and, ideally, in some cases serve as inputs in the formulation of public policies that lead to the improvement of the living conditions of the population of the country, especially the most vulnerable.
Fields of performance of graduates: labor and research
Graduates of the Doctorate in Economics will be able to apply the skills acquired in their doctoral training in any position that requires access to the global production of new knowledge and, in turn, participate in this creation. Some of these job opportunities include academia, public positions in the state and central banking, consultancy and research activities in the private sector, positions in multilateral organizations such as the IDB, the World Bank, and others.

The admission process of the University is based on three groups of criteria: Attitude, Skills and / or Knowledge. Of which each of the candidates will be evaluated through the activities established by the program, such as: interview, specific tests, among others (depends on each program). The applicant initiates the process of registration to the program through the registration form.
In the following table you will see the specific value for each criterion group and its specific activities:
* In the activity referred to the exam you can choose one of the related exams.
Each of the criteria groups Attitude, Skill and Knowledge will have specific activities to be evaluated and these activities in turn will have a specific value. Remember that an activity can appear repeated in different criteria, but this does not mean that you should repeat it for each of them. In the Knowledge criterion you can find several exams, of which you can choose for your admission process.
