Program description
General purpose
To train high level researchers that contribute to the generation of basic and applied knowledge in the different areas of humanistic disciplines, promoting the convergence and interaction of the humanities with other sciences and disciplines.
Specific objectives
To provide students with theoretical and methodological foundations that allow them to generate original knowledge in some of the areas of the humanities. As well as developing research in convergence with other disciplines and sciences where experiences are shared and projects are developed that emphasize the possible intersections. Therefore, this program proposes not only the development of projects in the Humanities areas but also projects whose ultimate goal is the interest in the human being and everything that promotes their well-being: in the social, educational, culturally, etc.
The Doctorate in Humanities maintains an eminently investigative orientation. The curriculum is strengthened through a tutorial system of supervision and monitoring of students' work, emphasizing the development of an original research project under specific research lines. Each student will be advised, supervised and evaluated by a Tuition Committee, which will be integrated by the main tutor and four researchers who will act as co-advisors throughout the thesis research process.

Egress Profile
The graduates of the Postgraduate programs in Humanities of the Universidad de Sonora will possess the competences and aptitudes to:
Design and direct research projects on empirical or conceptual problems of some of the humanities areas in Higher Education Institutions and Centers.
Disseminate the results of their research in academic and outreach forums: Write and present papers, conferences and workshops in specialized forums in any of the disciplines of the Humanities or related areas.
Evaluate and dictate projects and research programs in the humanities area as well as high level publications.
Form human resources at the undergraduate and graduate level.
Direct research groups in disciplines of the Humanities.
Form human personnel in some of the disciplines of the Humanities.
Train independent researchers
Part of the relevance not only local but also regional and international of the graduate in Humanities of the Humanities and Fine Arts Division is that it promotes the development of three fundamental skills in the scientific endeavor:
The handling of information, which in no way implies a simple accumulation of data, but the exercise of searches that are based on the semantic organization, say logical and critical, of contents;
The development of reflection skills, what is known as "learning to learn" or in other models such as "critical reasoning", which also requires mental maps that involve the structuring of content and;
The oral and written expression of the results of mental processes.

How to enter this postgraduate course?
Entry requirements
Original and copy of master's degree.
Original and copy of the master's degree certificate with a minimum average of 80 or its equivalent in other rating systems.
Original and copy of birth certificate.
Original and copy of the professional certificate of master's degree.
Copy of the Single Registry of Population Registry (CURP).
Letter of exposition of motives where the objectives that pursues when carrying out the postgraduate studies are indicated.
Application for admission, accompanied by the curriculum vitae with supporting documents.
Two letters of recommendation from academics who know their background and experience.
Two copies of works produced by the applicant or, where appropriate, a copy of his master's thesis.
Letter of commitment to be an exclusive full-time student.
Interview with the Academic Committee of the graduate.
Proof of English language proficiency test (TOEFL) with a minimum of 450 and desirable of 550.
To present the National Exit Exam for the EXANI-III Graduate of CENEVAL with a minimum of 1000 points.

What do you need to get the degree?
Qualification requirements
To obtain a PhD degree, you must:
Approve the total credits and meet the other requirements established in the corresponding graduate program;
Proof of understanding a language other than Spanish, as established by the Academic Committee of the Postgraduate Program according to the study program.
Pass the examination of grade in the written phase and in the oral phase before a jury named ex profeso.
For the degree of doctor, to pass a general examination of knowledge in the case in which the graduate program contemplates it.
Comply with the provisions and requirements demanded by the School Services Office for the issuance of the degree.
Titration options
Thesis with a minimum extension of 200 pages. The written work submitted to obtain the degree must first be approved by the Thesis or Tuition Committee. Pass the examination of grade in the written phase and in the oral phase before a jury named ex profeso.

The registration cost of applicants to enter the Universidad de Sonora is announced annually along with the first entry notice.
Registration and tuition fees
Students, when enrolling in any of the graduate programs, must cover the corresponding fees according to the current minimum wage in the city of Hermosillo, as established in the Quotas Regulation.
