Doctorate in Nanotechnology (DNT)

Program Description

The Doctorate in Nanotechnology is aimed at promoting the value chain using the fundamentals of nanosciences to generate frontier scientific knowledge that enhances the development of innovative nanotechnological products and / or services, and identifies technology-based entrepreneurial opportunities that increase the benefits the country's competitive

Program taught by professors with doctorate degree and professional experience of the School of Engineering and Sciences of Tecnológico de Monterrey.

This program has accreditations and recognitions from national and international institutions such as:

  • Program accredited by the National Graduate Quality Register (PNPC) of CONACyT.
  • Commission of Universities of the Association of Schools and Universities of the South of the United States (SACS).
  • The Tecnológico de Monterrey is accredited by the Commission of Universities of the Association of Schools and Universities of the South of the United States to grant professional degrees and academic degrees of masters and doctorates. Contact the College Commission at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097, or call (1) 404-679-4500 (1) 404-679-4500, for questions about the Tecnológico de Monterrey accreditation.
  • National Postgraduate Program in Quality (PNPC) of the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACyT).
  • Recognition of official validity of the Secretariat of Public Education of Mexico.

Educational model

The active participation of students in their professional and personal education is promoted through individual and collaborative learning. This model also allows the student to build their knowledge with the guidance of expert teachers in their professional field and in teaching.

I direct to

The Doctoral Program in Nanotechnology is designed for candidates with proven academic capacity, creativity, motivation and potential to carry out research that manifests itself in original works that contribute to enrich the field of nanotechnology.

In the case of the DNT, there is an adequate selection mechanism for applicants that considers the relevant aspects to identify the academic profile, such as the research required for an outstanding performance.

The candidate to enter the doctorate must have an excellent academic background, and have a vocation as a researcher in any of the fields of knowledge promoted by the doctoral program. The admission process is designed to ensure the above, emphasizing the need to have the skills and potential for research. During the admission process, the financial support needed by the student and the research topic are reviewed. All the above with the purpose of raising the chances of success of the student and the research line.

  • To train independent researchers, with skills, knowledge and skills to identify opportunities, develop, and direct original research projects at the frontier of knowledge.
  • Disseminate the results of such investigations, and apply the knowledge generated in the technological development of the country. To be recognized as a high impact nanotechnology program in the scientific, productive, educational-academic and social sectors of the country.

Lines of investigation

By its nature, the Doctorate in Nanotechnology is multidisciplinary, covering three areas of knowledge (Materials Science and Nanotechnology, Micro and Nanosystems and Nanophotonics and Quantum Systems) that have been selected among the research lines with greater strength within the School of Engineering and Sciences. These areas interact with each other through projects, centers and focus groups.

The areas of knowledge that serve to define the research topics of the DNT Program are:

  • Materials Science and Nanotechnology
This line is oriented to the development of functional nanostructured materials, innovative processes of nanofabrication, design of nanostructured devices, and the generation of innovative concepts as a basis for the development of new nano-technological products. The application of Nanosciences with the support of exact sciences, mathematical modeling of materials, computational simulation, and experimental infrastructure for characterization and fabrication of test prototypes are highly desirable.

  • Micro and Nanosystems
This line of research is aimed at generating avant-garde and world-class research that advances knowledge in micro and nano-systems, generating innovative sensor and nanosystem developments with improved sensitivity, selectivity, portability and lower energy consumption capabilities. The use of Nanosciences and Nanoelectronics as well as the experimental infrastructure for manufacturing and characterization will be highly privileged.

  • Nanophotonics and Quantum Systems
This line of research is aimed at generating frontier research for technological developments and innovation in topics such as the interactions between matter and light (photons) in the nanometric scale, the use of light for alteration, manufacturing and / or characterization of organic and inorganic nanostructured materials.
