The PhD in Management is an intense and rigorous four-year program that equips a student with the research skills to become world-leading experts in their chosen field of studies. The program is entirely taught in English.

Under the guidance of an internationally renowned faculty, students conduct independent field-based research in strategy, innovation and entrepreneurship, marketing, accounting, and corporate finance. Graduate students find placement primarily in academia and research institutions as well as in large consulting organizations and firms.

The first two years of the program are dedicated to coursework, whereas the third and fourth years are dedicated to research and dissertation. To develop a program suited to their interests, students are encouraged to gain research experience by closely working with the LUISS faculty and to spend at least one semester at an internationally renowned research university. Throughout the program, students are exposed to seminars and workshops on publication strategies and approaches to the international job market.

APPLICATION AND ADMISSION

LUISS invites outstanding candidates to apply for the PhD Program in Management. The PhD is an intense and rigorous programme that equips student with the research skills to become world-leading experts in the chosen field of studies. Under the guidance of an internationally renowned faculty, students conduct independent field-based research in strategy and organization, innovation and entrepreneurship, marketing, accounting, corporate finance, and business ethics, responsibility and sustainability. The PhD is a 4-year full time programme. All classes are taught in English. Graduating students find placement primarily in the world of research, both academic and non-academic, as well as in large consulting organizations and firms.

LUISS offers up to six fellowships to attend the PhD. Admitted students are offered a financial support package which includes a tuition waiver and a stipend of € 15,343.28 gross per year to cover living expenses during the 4 years of the degree. Additionally, students have access to funding for research trips as well as a grant increment if they spend a visiting period at a prestigious international university.

The PhD program is comprised of four years of full-time study. The first two years are dedicated to coursework, while the third and fourth years are dedicated to research and dissertation. Year 1 consists of disciplinary courses in management and research methods. Year 2 is dedicated to courses on a chosen field of specialization, concluding with the development of a research proposal. Years 3 and 4 are devoted to research and to dissertation preparation, culminating in the submission and defense of the thesis. To develop a program suited to their interests, students are encouraged to gain research experience by closely working with the LUISS faculty and to spend at least one semester at an internationally renowned research university.

MANDATORY DOCUMENTATION:

I) Certification/self-certification of the degree held setting out the exams sat and the associated grade awarded and credits earned, the grade point average and the degree grade (for each degree if more than one degree held).

Candidates with a qualification awarded in an EU country must submit the following:

  1. degree parchment in its original language;
  2. diploma supplement and academic transcript in their original language;
  3. translation into Italian or English of the two documents indicated in the preceding points 1 and 2: the translations are not required if the documents in question are issued by the institution directly in English.

Candidates with a qualification awarded in a non-EU country must submit the following:

  1. degree parchment in its original language;
  2. academic transcript in its original language;
  3. translation into Italian or English of the two documents indicated in the preceding points A and B: the translations are not required if the documents in question are issued by the institution directly in English.

For qualifications awarded in a non-EU country the admitted candidates may submit a statement of comparability of the foreign qualification issued by the Information Centre on Academic Mobility and Equivalence (CIMEA) as an alternative to submission of the documents indicated in points A and B above. II) Curriculum vitae, indicating all the qualifications held (for example, master’s degree, advanced courses, other PhDs, etc.), research undertaken, study and work periods abroad or in any event of international relevance, and certified knowledge of additional foreign languages other than English, if any.

III) National ID card/passport

IV) List of publications in areas pertinent to the doctoral program as well as the full text of a maximum of three publications included in the said list.

V) Research Proposal, consistent with the educational goals and the themes of the doctoral program (maximum 12,000 characters with spaces, excluding the bibliography).

VI) A Statement of Purpose: maximum 3,000 characters with spaces, written in English.

This should be a statement from candidates setting out the reasons that have led them to continue their studies, describing their studies so far and briefly indicating their research interests;

VII) no. 1 reference letter sent by a professor or a recognized expert by e-mail to dottorati@luiss.it inserting the name of the candidate and the PhD program for which he/she submits the application.

OPTIONAL DOCUMENTATION

I) Any other qualifications: for example, certification of knowledge of foreign languages other than English or certification of other qualifications held, indicating the marks obtained in the single exams if such marks were awarded (for example, a master’s degree in a subject pertinent to the doctoral program, European Doctorate, relevant experience at institutions and public bodies);

II) GMAT.
