Plant physiology studies vital processes in plant organisms deal with intrinsic relationships within the plant body as well as interactions with the environment. At present, the traditional name „physiology“ de facto covers complex studies of plant biology including genetic, biochemical and ecological problems. It aims to elucidate coherence between structure and function at the level of the whole organism, organs, tissues, and cells. It makes use of the methods of biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, anatomy, and ecology. Plant physiology contributes to the knowledge of the general biology of living organisms including biomedical aspects.
Description of verification and evaluation criteria
The entrance exam is a one-round in the form of an interview. Based on a written request submitted electronically together with the application but no later than by 19 May 2019, the Dean may permit the entrance examination to take place via information and communication technology, but only for serious and documented reasons such as health or study abroad.
During the entrance examination, the candidate must demonstrate the technical and linguistic skills to study the given program, along with attributes necessary for scientific work. The examination is graded with a maximum of 100 points, of which 15 points are awarded as a bonus for giving a more specific idea of the study content and planned dissertation work in the voluntary application appendix, including the dissertation topic, a brief annotation, the anticipated supervising department and the consent of a specific supervisor to supervise such doctoral project.

Admission to Doctoral studies is conditioned by the successful completion of a Master's study program.

Rules governing exemption from entrance examination
The entrance exam may be waived based on a written request from the candidate, provided they have successfully applied for a STARS project in the given academic year. Such a request, along with documentation that the conditions have been met, must be submitted (but not electronically) by 19 May 2019.
A graduate has general knowledge about the current state of experimental plant biology, the focus of which lies in plant life functions and structures, signal and regulatory mechanisms of physiological processes from molecular, cell and organ levels to the level of a plant as a complex entirety in relation to environmental factors including plant interactions with organisms. They are capable of using this knowledge in basic or applied research-oriented both toward agriculture, e.g. breeding research, plant production, and protection, or biomedical research - pharmacy or medicine. They are well informed in current field advances, capable of designing original research projects, and can independently accomplish plant biology research with the use of many approaches from bioinformatics to microscopy and ecological physiology.
