Course description


The doctoral studies programme qualifies for scientific work in the areas of biodiversity and ecology in university and non-university research institutes. It leads to a Ph.D. or a doctorate.

Programme structure


The central object of the doctoral studies programme is the production of a dissertation. Additionally, an average of 3 credits must be earned each semester in interdisciplinary or subject-related activities (courses, colloquiums, etc.); 3 of these credits must be earned each year by the completion of interdisciplinary activities held in English. In this way and by submitting work reports to the examination board at regular intervals, a total of 20 credits must be earned.

The graduates of the doctoral studies programme will become the next generation of scientists at scientific institutes of research and teaching, such as universities, Max Planck Institutes, as well as regional and national laboratories and centers of research. Furthermore, they can work in executive positions with the administration and agencies concerned with the environment or nature conservation, as well as with national and international organizations in the areas of conservation or agronomy/forestry.
