Ph.D. in Chemical Biology


The Chemical Biology Program emphasizes the interface between Chemistry and Biology, as well as its potential applications for other fields. It involves the study of interactions between small molecules and their possible biological targets, the study of biological pathways using chemical tools, drug delivery, as well as chemical understanding of disease states, in order to create basic science knowledge for future drug discovery efforts.

The Program has been designed to train graduates to be capable of initiating collaborations on new frontiers of research with a multidisciplinary nature.

Doctoral Degree

  • Candidates should hold a Master’s degree or its equivalent in the above-mentioned fields, with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 at the Master’s level.
  • Candidates holding a Bachelor’s degree with First Class Honors are also eligible.

English Proficiency

All candidates must attain an official test score higher than the minimum score for admission in any of the following standardized English examinations.


International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 5

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL):

* Paper-based: 500

* Computer-based: 173

* Internet-based: 61

CU-Test of English Proficiency (CU-TEP): 60

However, applicants from countries where English is the native language are exempted from this requirement. Additionally, applicants holding a previous degree from a university where the sole medium of instruction is English may submit a Certificate of University Medium of Instruction to fulfill this requirement.
