Civil Engineering Science
​The Department has grown to one of the largest in South Africa and is home to a staff that is actively involved in cutting-edge research. The Department maintains strong links with industry and professional associations and provides its undergraduates with training and expertise in hi-tech laboratories with cutting edge equipment.
Key academic focus areas include water, structures, transport, geotechnical engineering, project management, civil engineering materials, urban development, and design.
Civil Engineering Technology
The Department of Civil Engineering Technology is home to two research groups that focus on concrete as a construction material and on soil compaction. The program is designed to ensure graduates are skilled with knowledge and application of a range of engineering technology services.

Admission requirements and selection criteria:
An approved Master’s degree in Engineering or a similar approved degree at Master’s level or NQF level 9 equivalent. Final admission to the program will only be granted upon the successful presentation of a research seminar six months after enrollment. Research topics must also be accepted and approved by the supervisors in the Faculty and finally by the Senate or Executive Committee of the Senate of the University.
