Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Concentration: Information Technology

The Ph.D. degree in IT is a research-oriented program fostering research contributions on the area of Information Technologies and related fields. Examples of these areas include information management, digital ecosystems, digital economy, enterprise systems, knowledge management, IT innovation, IT strategies, cloud computing, and emerging technologies. Students are expected to develop and gain a solid understanding of the underlying state of the art information technologies and their associated theoretical principles. Upon graduation, our students acquire a solid knowledge of IT, which make them capable of independent work and well prepared to be IT scholars.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Concentration: Information Security

The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) with Concentration in Information Security is available for high caliber individuals who are able to develop and implement their own research studies. The program provides students with the knowledge and ability to conduct applied and basic research towards the development of novel solutions to substantive information security research problems from academia, government, and Industry. In addition to conducting rigorous research, students are expected to complete a set of course work and pass all required examinations.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the breadth of knowledge in the discipline and advance, in-depth knowledge in the sub-discipline or area of specialization.
  • Perform and defend an original work of research in their fields of specialization which contributed new human knowledge.
  • Identify, analyze critically and explain open problems in their disciplines and apply relevant research methodology for finding a possible solution.
  • Communicate the major tenets of their field of specialization and their work orally and in writing to the faculty, their peers, and the lay public.
  • Identify areas where ethical issues may arise in their field, and articulate strategies to mitigate situations related to ethical issues in their profession.
  • Demonstrate insight into the transferable nature of research skills to other work environments and the range of career opportunities available to them inside and outside academia.

Ph.D. Scholarship (All Nationalities) Full-Time

The purpose of the “Ph.D. Scholarship” is to recruit high achieving graduate students in certain majors at UAEU and provide them with full and continuous financial support to pursue their graduate studies at UAEU.

Student Eligibility

  • Have a GPA ≥ 3.5/4.0 in Master degree.
  • A score of 6.5 or higher on the IELTS Academic exam or equivalent.
  • Have no employment or other financial sponsorship.
  • Have a dissertation in one of the UAE priority sectors(Renewable Energy, Transportation, Education, Health, Water, Technology, Space).
  • Meet the Ph.D. admission requirements.

Benefits

  • Full tuition waiver.
  • Monthly Stipend.
  • Health insurance (if needed).
  • Extra Bonus:
    • Up to AED 3,000 from supervisor’s external research project, or
    • Up to AED 2,000 from supervisor’s internal research project.

Duration

4 years

Duties and Expectations

  • Maintain GPA of ≥ 3.3 at the Ph.D. level.
  • Be enrolled full-time (minimum of 9 credits/semester) at the Ph.D. level.
  • Be available at UAEU full-time.
  • Commit to a minimum of 40 hours/week as the following:
    • During the first 3 semesters of active enrollment: 35 hours/week on courses and/or research project + 5 hours/week as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) or Graduate Administrative Assistant (GAA).
    • After 3 semesters of active enrollment: 30 hours/week on courses and/or research project + 10 hours/week as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) or Graduate Administrative Assistant (GAA).

Ph.D. Fellowship (All Nationalities) Full-Time

The purpose of the “Ph.D. Fellowship” is to recruit high achieving graduate students in certain majors at UAEU and provide them with full and continuous financial support to pursue their graduate studies at UAEU.

Student Eligibility

  • Have a GPA ≥ 3.3/4.0 in Master degree.
  • A score of 6.5 or higher on the IELTS Academic exam or equivalent.
  • Have no employment or other financial sponsorship.
  • Have a dissertation in one of the UAE priority sectors(Renewable Energy, Transportation, Education, Health, Water, Technology, Space).

  • Additional work (optional) as Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) or Graduate Administrative Assistant (GAA) up to 20 hours per week upon availability by the College or College of Graduate Studies (up to AED 4,000).
  • Extra Bonus:
    • Up to AED 3,000 from supervisor’s external research project, or
    • Up to AED 2,000 from supervisor’s internal research project.

The purpose of the “Ph.D. Tuition Payer” option is to recruit high achieving graduate students who are employed and wish to pursue their graduate studies at UAEU on a part-time basis.

Student Eligibility

  • Have a GPA ≥ 3.0/4.0 in Master degree.
  • Pay the tuition fees of the Ph.D. program.
  • Prefer to have the dissertation in one of the UAE priority sectors(Renewable Energy, Transportation, Education, Health, Water, Technology, Space).
  • Meet the Ph.D. admission requirements.

Benefits

  • Optional work as Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) or Graduate Administrative Assistant (GAA) up to 10 hours per week upon availability by College or College of Graduate Studies (up to AED 2,000).
  • Extra Bonus:
    • Up to AED 3,000 from supervisor’s external research project, or
    • Up to AED 2,000 from supervisor’s internal research project.

4 - 6 years

Duties and Expectations
