The doctoral degree in Legal Science offers advanced formation to legal professionals, instructors and researchers. Doctoral students have the opportunity to specialise in private law as well as public law or general law. There is no mandatory coursework as students focus on their research program, working with guidance from their advisor. This degree culminates in thesis submission and defence.

Those that may apply to a study course leading to the PhD degree in Legal Sciences are:
a) The holder of a Master’s degree or legal equivalent;
b) Holders of a degree, an academic or scientific curriculum that is recognized as attesting the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies by the Scientific Council;
c) Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized by the Scientific Council, as attesting the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies.
The recognition referred to in subparagraphs b) and c) above refers only to the access to the PhD in Legal Sciences and does not confer its holder with the equivalence to the Bachelor or Master degree, or the right to its/their recognition.
