Philosophy of science investigates the principles of rational understanding to animate as well as inanimate nature. The scientific knowledge has period specific nature characterized by the noun paradigm. The history of science represents the merger of scientific and other cultural influences. Historical development of a particular scientific branch provides the specific depiction of a paradigm under investigation. „Philosophy and History of Science“ is primary accessible to graduates of the Faculty of Sciences and Philosophical Faculty; entrance requirements involves the possession of MSc or MA degree (Mgr).
Description of verification and evaluation criteria
The entrance exam is a one-round in the form of an interview. Based on a written request submitted electronically together with the application but no later than by 19 May 2019, the Dean may permit the entrance examination to take place via information and communication technology, but only for serious and documented reasons such as health or study abroad.
During the entrance examination, the candidate must demonstrate the technical and linguistic skills to study the given program, along with attributes necessary for scientific work. The examination is graded with a maximum of 100 points.

Admission to Doctoral studies is conditioned by successful completion of a Master's study program.

Rules governing exemption from entrance examination
The entrance exam may be waived based on a written request from the candidate, provided they have successfully applied for a STARS project in the given academic year. Such a request, along with documentation that the conditions have been met, must be submitted (but not electronically) by 19 May 2019.
A graduate of the doctoral study program in Philosophy and the History of Natural Science possesses extensive knowledge in the field of philosophical and methodological foundations of the scientific disciplines (primarily biology), as well as thorough familiarity with their history. He/she has a wide knowledge of languages (frequently including classical) and specialized skills in work with scientific and scholarly literature, acquired through work with the source texts. Moreover, they have more specialized knowledge at their disposal, depending on the topic of his/her doctoral thesis, since the study is highly individual – each student has his or her own supervisor, according to whose proposal the departmental board determines the structure and content of the student’s study plan.
