The Subject Area Board does not propose or require particular Ph.D. topics but allows applicants to suggest research projects according to their personal preferences. However, prospective topics should fall within the research interests and ongoing projects of the Romance Linguistics section of the Department of Romance Studies.
Ph.D. topics must be consulted prior to the application with the Chair of the Subject Area Board. Chair of the Subject Area Board (Programme Director): doc. PhDr. Petr Čermák, Ph.D. (petr.cermak@ff.cuni.cz).
An applicant can only be admitted if they are awarded a minimum of 30 points in the entrance examination and, at the same time, score enough points to place among the expected number of students admitted to the respective program of study; admissions will be granted to all applicants who score the same number of points as the applicant who comes in the last place in the ranking of admissions. Please note that different expected numbers of admissions apply to full-time and combined forms of study. Applicants cannot be admitted without submitting evidence of their prior education no later than on the enrolment day.

Information about graduate employment
The Ph.D. graduate in Romance languages is a highly qualified specialist trained to conduct research work in his/her field (the linguistics and philology of one or more Romance languages). He/she is able to interpret these languages in a qualified manner, applying a synchronic or diachronic approach and utilizing modern linguistic methods and research procedures. His/her specialization is based also on the knowledge of the foundations and history of general linguistics with a special focus on Romance linguistics. The graduate is ready to seek employment in academia (universities, research centers, etc.); with his/her language skills and broad erudition, the graduate may be employed in cultural institutions, the media, diplomacy, etc.
