Introduction The Programme PhD in Agricultural and Forestry Research Is an official university degree of multidisciplinary character that offers to the student the possibility to choose between a wide range of subjects related to the agrarian and forestry production of Galicia and the Atlantic biogeographic region of Europe. Participants in the program are researchers from two centers of the University of A Coruña (Institute of Geology and Faculty of Sciences) and four departments of the University of Santiago de Compostela (Plant Production, Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, Plant Physiology and Botany). The objective of this program is to train trained experts in agrarian, forestry and agroforestry research. The skills acquired are aimed at improving the production and the sustainability of the environment. Why study the degree This doctoral program is aimed at the analysis of the basic processes and the management of the agricultural and forestry sectors of Galicia, where these sectors are very representative for the surface it occupies and for its high productivity. Programme description

This internationally designed course of study is held in English and is intended to lead graduates of agricultural science to a doctorate degree in three years. It is aimed towards German and international students with an international study focus on their research activities.In the first year of studies, the courses concentrate on modules that prepare the contents and methods of the research. In the second year, doctoral candidates may return to their home country to acquire the data necessary for their work. Field research is accompanied on site in seminars at partner universities. In the third year - back in Göttingen – the data is evaluated and the dissertation prepared. It is also possible to conduct research activities solely at the Faculty for Agricultural Sciences. During studies, two public colloquiums are specified in which the doctoral candidates introduce the status of their research work. Scientific seminars and lectures during the entire course of the programme offer a forum for the interdisciplinary exchange of all research projects.
