What is a PhD in Architecture Studies? A doctoral degree in this area may confer deep knowledge in architecture and allied concentrations such as engineering, planning and design. In-depth thesis development may include research and study of the fundamental elements and foundations forming the field of architecture to further its expansion. Candidates can tailor their area of focus to meet their individual needs in topics such as urban studies, arts and design, and development. Core competencies may vary based on specialty.

PhD candidates can develop long-form writing and presentation skills, enabling them to communicate complex ideas effectively. Self-management skills may also benefit individuals in many aspects of life, personal and professional.

The Ph.D. Program in “Regional Science and Economic Geography” is unique in the world. It is a multidisciplinary program meant for students from different backgrounds including applied economists, economic geographers, urban planners, and sociologists. Our main research themes include migration (both voluntary and forced), regional resilience (both in peripheral areas and cities), knowledge (innovation, human capital, creativity, entrepreneurship) and the informal economy. The methodological approach spans from more qualitative (case studies) techniques to more quantitative (econometric-based) ones. We have internship programs with the OECD and the European Commission and several collaborations with foreign universities (including an Erasmus+ program with the London School of Economics). Our students are fully funded and we provide them with accommodation and meal vouchers. -
