What is a PhD in Bioengineering? Bioengineering is an interdisciplinary study that looks at engineering, biology, medicines and health sciences. Many programs teach students how to apply engineering principles to the study of biological processes. Of course, each university may offer different areas of concentration, such as biophysics, novel biomaterials and wound healing. The exact courses offered for a PhD program can be different at each school, but they may include bioengineering professionalism, computational bioengineering, biological nanoengineering, digital imaging, optical electronics and biomedical instrumentation.

Studying bioengineering at a doctorate level can give participants a variety of unique skills and knowledge that may help them be more competitive job applicants. For example, some people may build their abilities to think critically, design research projects and communicate through writing. These skills can even correlate to a more meaningful personal life.
