Introduction

The Programme Doctorate in Information and Communication Technologies Was given for the first time in the course 2000/2001, coinciding with the creation of the University Department with the same name. The areas of knowledge of the Department are Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence and Telematics Engineering, which determine the basic contents of the program. Since its inception, the doctoral program has been oriented to research in these subject areas, with a large number of applications, surpassing demand year after year to the places offered.

Introduction

This PhD Program is organized by the University of A Coruña with the collaboration of professors from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Within the new regulations (RD 99/2011), the Program is directed towards research, development and innovation (R & D & I) in three main thematic areas: Documentation Sciences, Communication Sciences and The Humanities. All this within the context of the Knowledge Society, taking into account the developments in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and changes in the production model towards sustainable economy models.

The term "Knowledge Society" refers to the framework of the Program. The components of present-day contemporary society, both in the historical and systematic dimensions, are framed there. In this way, the title of the Program seeks to be effective: it revolves around the effective search for new perspectives in the fields of Documentation, Communication and Humanities Sciences.
