Top Part time Doctoral Programs in Economics and Administration in Asia. PhD in Business Administration Koç PhD program's main focus is to train students to become influential research scholars in their field of study at top universities worldwide. Interested students should desire an academic position at a top university, and possess the motivation and ability to attain this goal. For this reason, our program is not an appropriate option for people planning to work in industry. Three aspects of the program stand out to help achieve its primary goal of training high-quality researchers: The Quality of the Faculty Koç GSB Faculty members have PhD's from reputable PhD programs worldwide, are research-active and publish in top journals in their area of expertise (click here for a list of most recent publications). Additionally, a number of faculty are represented in editorial review boards of top journals. Program Structure Koç University PhD in Business Administration program has a flexible structure to accommodate students with unique goals and backgrounds. For example, PhD candidates in marketing can focus on consumer behavior, strategy, or modeling, and customize their course work accordingly. This customization may involve taking courses from related disciplines, including economics, and psychology. Note that our program requirements focus on developing conceptual and methodological skills, which are essential to producing quality academic research. Student Support Koç GSB Faculty is dedicated to the training of Phd students, and collaborate with them on joint projects. Published papers that resulted from such collaborations attest to the success of this approach. PhD students have very limited teaching responsibilities so that they can focus on their research program and develop their research skills without much distraction on their time. For students interested in experimental methods, there is a dedicated marketing lab with twenty one lab stations. Data collection is simplified thanks to specialized software that handles study announcements, participant sign-ups, and extra credit assignments. We emphasize a supportive culture among our PhD students, and focus on the collective success of the group rather than individual students. Resulting supportive social environment enables students to establish valuable relationships with their colleagues in the program. Stockholm School of Economics
Campus 4 years August 2017 Sweden Stockholm

The SSE PhD Program in Economics (240 ECTS) is a North American-style program with around 35 doctoral students. [+]

In their first two years students take courses taught by both SSE and Stockholm University faculty as part of a joint undertaking: the Stockholm Doctoral Course Program in Economics, Econometrics and Finance (SDPE). In their first year students take mandatory courses in mathematics, microeconomics, macroeconomics, mathematical statistics and econometrics. In the second year students can choose between a large number of topic courses. In the final two to three years of graduate study, each student does dissertation research under the supervision of an SSE faculty member. Frequently research from PhD theses at SSE are published in leading journals, with Journal of Finance and Quarterly Journal of Economics as recent examples. Job placements of recent graduates include Cambridge University, the International Monetary Fund, Paris School of Economics and University College London. We like to think that the SSE combines the advantages of a small department, with close and informal connections to faculty, with the breadth of courses and seminars associated with a larger department. Conditional on satisfactory performance, all students are financed throughout the program. More than half of the PhD students come from outside Sweden. Many PhD students spend one or two semesters visiting other leading universities in the US and Europe. SSE is also a member of the European Network for Training in Economic Research (ENTER) together with other prominent economics departments in Europe. Prerequisites To be eligible for admission, we require the following: 1) A university level degree 2) At least three semesters of economics courses (90 ECTS) including a thesis worth at least 15 ECTS 3) One year of Master level studies, or the equivalent. We are looking for academic excellence and for students who are well prepared for a PhD program in economics. Therefore, you are welcome to apply if you are studying in the first year of a Masters program. We may also admit students who for instance have a Bachelor's degree in economics but in addition have one to two years of coursework in mathematics and statistics at the advanced Bachelor level. We will also consider students with a very strong record from a four-year university program. All applicants are required to take the general GRE test (Graduate Record Exam, institution code 7016, department code 1801), and the TOEFL test (Test of English as a Foreign Language). Financial Support All admitted PhD students receive a scholarship from the Stockholm School of Economics. Currently, this is a tax-exempted stipend of SEK 13,000 per month for the first year. BI Norwegian Business School are currently offering full-time PhD scholarships. The Scholarships are granted for four years and pays NOK 448 000 per year (approximately Euro 48 300.) BI offers a full-time doctoral programme leading to the Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD). We admit highly qualified candidates that develop into researchers in the course of the programme. With a PhD from BI Norwegian Business School, you will be well positioned for a career in academia Our PhD programme consists of six different specialisations. The specialisations are Economics, Finance, Marketing, Strategic Management, Leadership & Organization, and Innovation & Entrepreneurship. As a prospective candidate, you will apply for one of the specialisations. If admitted, you will take courses primarily in your field of study - your specialisation - and be supervised by faculty in this same field. This will help you to develop your research agenda and to progress into a researcher capable of producing research publishable in the top journals in your field. We are currently offering full-time PhD scholarships in Marketing, Strategy, and Leadership & Organization. Our school’s academic departments govern the specialisations in the PhD programme. In other words, the Finance Department runs the finance specialisation; The Strategy Department runs the strategy specialisation, and so on. Our academic departments have strong track records of producing research of high quality. The Finance Department is currently ranked 10th in Europe and 2nd in the Nordic countries based on research published in the top finance journals between 2005-2014. Progamme structure Course component To provide our candidates with the theoretical knowledge, empirical knowledge and methodological skills required to become successful researchers, the PhD programme consists of methodology courses, specialisation courses and elective courses. Seminars Our PhD candidates regularly attend research seminars. A research seminar is an event where the academic departments invite an internationally renowned researcher to present some of his/her ongoing research. This provides important exposure to the research frontier. PhD candidates who have finished their course work and have started to develop their own research agenda will also present their work at research seminars. PhD committees and pre-doctoral defense Our candidates have academic supervisors who help them develop as researchers. When the dissertation’s research questions are sufficiently well developed, the candidates will hold a pre-doctoral defense in front of a committee. This committee consists of professors from other universities, who will evaluate research progress and give advice on how best to move the research forward. The committee will assess whether the candidate is on track to the successful completion of the dissertation. Dissertation and final defense The PhD dissertation will provide contributions to the academic literature. PhD candidates from BI are expected to write a dissertation containing research that can be published in the leading academic journals of their field of specialisation. The PhD evaluation committee will have the final say on whether or not a dissertation is ready for public defense—meaning that the PhD candidate is ready to publicly defend his/her research in front of the PhD evaluation committee, other faculty, family and friends. PhD placement The dissertation is clearly an important outcome of several years of research work. However, the most important outcome for our PhD candidates is the employment opportunities that will be available after having defended their thesis. At BI, we emphasize placing our PhD candidates at excellent research universities. Past PhD candidates have been recruited by London Business School, University of Melbourne, University of Calgary, and Nanyang University, to name a few.
