Economics Ph.D. is a four year program, totally taught in English, aimed at training international economists capable of contributing to the advancement of knowledge and expanding the frontiers of research in the economic disciplines. These economists are prepared for academic or professional careers in international institutions, central banks and with economic and/or regulatory policy makers, or in consulting firms and financial institutions. The program is designed to give students the ability to understand and elaborate a broad spectrum of economic problems and to provide up to date analytical, empirical and quantitative techniques. Students acquire the necessary skills to undertake both academic and professional careers, in universities, international research institutions, public authorities, central banks, consulting and financial institutions. During the program students focus on writing their doctoral dissertation and present their work in internal seminars, while following seminars or “reading groups” at LUISS or at EIEF (Einaudi Institute for Economics and Finance). The Ph.D. dissertation is expected to consist in an original and significant contribution to the chosen field of specialization. Academic year 2016/2017 For the academic year 2016/2017, five positions are available. All positions are tuition free. The five positions come with a scholarship (around 13.500 € per year). The application for admission must be submitted on line by March, 29 2016. In order for us to consider your application it is necessary that you submit a complete application. You must upload all of the requested documentation and supply correct referee details through our online application system. Once the procedure for submitting the application has been completed, the candidate will receive by email a copy of the application as a proof of the accuracy and validity of the procedure. Detailed information is contained in the call available in English and in Italian. Requirements Students applying for the Doctoral Program must have completed a Laurea Magistrale or a Laurea (vecchio ordinamento) or any other equivalent foreign (Master) degree no later than April 30, 2016. Students holding a Master degree granted by a foreign institution will need a legal transcript translated in Italian along with a Certificate of Validation (dichiarazione di valore) issued by an Italian Diplomatic Office from the same country where the degree has been granted. For applicants holding a foreign Master degree, the application will be accepted even if the Certificate of Validation is not provided. In this case, the admission to the Doctoral Program is conditional on providing the Certificate of Validation at registration. During the entire program, doctoral candidates are students of the University of Göttingen. Aside from the research program, Ph.D candidates are additionally required to attend lectures and seminars in order to broaden their knowledge and to acquire new skills.
