Environmental Studies

Requirements for the PhD program often involve the student having already obtained a Master’s degree. Additionally, a thesis or dissertation primarily consisting of original academic research must be submitted. In some countries, this work may even need to be defended in front of a panel.

The goal of an environmental studies program is to prepare students to solve environmental issues. This may include working in the government to create new laws and policies, working in the legal system to fight for environmental causes or working in the field to protect natural resources.

In all, there are over 4000 Higher Education Institutions in Europe offering a wide range of courses at Bachelor, Masters and Doctorate level. With more and more of these organizations offering English as the language of education for at least some of their degree programs, universities in Europe are now of higher quality than ever before. Universities in Europe offer a friendly welcome to foreign students and to give a course of knowledge that meets their profession needs in today’s global demand.

PhD in Environmental Science

Charles University Faculty of Science
Campus Online & Campus Combined Full time 4 years October 2019 Czech Republic Prague + 1 more

The program reflects a general public demand to understand and analyze mechanisms of adverse changes to the environment and find ways to mitigate them. The key aim of the study is a detailed analysis of the current state of the environment, identification of principal pollutants, their dynamics, transport processes, and transformation among the various environmental compartments. An important aspect of the study is identification of biotic and abiotic processes, phenomena, species, and/or their groups (and their combinations) which may through the mediation of their state, behaviour or a certain mechanism assist in early recognition of an unwilling disruption of a given environmental system (air, water, soil, biota, etc.).
