"The United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences, Iwate University. (Ph.D.)" is organized on the basis of three Master Courses (Agriculture or Agriculture and Life Science) of Hirosaki University, Iwate University, Yamagata University, the Master's Course (Animal Husbandry) of Obihiro University of Agricultural and Veterinary Medicine, and the research facilities of each university.
This school is operated in close cooperation with the Master's Courses of the four universities and provides an independent 3-year Doctoral Course. Each student can choose their major advisory professor from faculty belonging to any of the constituent universities and other partner research institutions. Creation of Advanced Science and Technology in the Future
The Graduate School of Science and Technology (Doctoral Course) consists of two courses of Advanced Materials Science and Technology and Safety Science and Technology. The former covers the development of useful materials and their application technology and the latter does crisis-controlling technology for natural and human-originating disasters in the highly developed society. Each course aims to bring up engineers who will be able to solve problems with a flexible and perspective consideration from the whole situation.

Our academic calendar is based on a quarter system (1 quarter = 10 weeks). Because of the program's flexible structure and modular design, multiple starting dates are available at the start of every Quarter and of every Term, in October, November, January, February, April, May, July, and August. All campuses follow the same academic calendar.
Program durationPart-time students can earn a Doctoral degree in 2 to 4 academic years, depending on the number of courses attempted per quarter, the course selection and the course planning; earning half the typical number of courses equals twice the duration of the part-time program. The more flexible the working hours, the more courses will be available to finish faster. All Postgraduate students are considered part-time. Part-time studies are available only for students with a national passport or residence permit.... [-]

Our postgraduate programs, each with different program requirements, are based on and are fully compatible with the established European and American educational systems. The European guidelines for higher education are outlined in the Bologna agreements. Once a minimum number of credits has been earned, a request for graduation can be submitted. Postgraduate programs are advanced academic programs for college and university graduates, as well as for working professionals wishing to pursue a progressive career in the field of communication and liberal arts.
