Natural Sciences

The PhD is a doctoral degree, specifically called a "doctor of philosophy" degree. This is misleading because PhD holders are not necessarily philosophers (unless they earned their degree in philosophy!). That said, PhD recipients are able to engage in thought experiments, reason about problems, and solve problems in sophisticated ways.

Research in Natural Studies is vital to understanding how the earth works and how its various systems interact with one another. Those who study Natural Science on the doctoral level will be in a position to lead these studies. A PhD in Natural Science is the degree required for research and instruction in this area of science.
