Physics

The most popular doctorate is the Doctor of Philosophy or Ph.D. Ph.D.s and other study doctorates prepare graduate student to launch new plans that add to the common knowledge base of the field. Candidates for and holders of Ph.D.s often seek professions as professors and researchers, but many also go on to different roles in the charitable, public, and private sectors.

Most Physics PhD programs cover all aspects of the subject from Condensed Matter, Atomic and Biological Physics on-campus while Astronomy, Particle Physics and Nuclear Physics are often located on large, shared international facilities due to the expensive equipment required for such research.

Best Part time Doctoral Programs in Physics 2017/2018. Introduction The Programme Doctoral Degree in Applied Physics Is an official university degree framed in the field of applied sciences and oriented to different aspects of science and technology. It is an interuniversity program between the University of Vigo (coordinating university) and the University of A Coruña. The objective of this program is to provide the necessary skills to our students so that through the completion of their doctoral thesis they acquire the knowledge that allows them to carry out research projects and / or their incorporation into the industrial world. Why study the degree The global society is immersed in a continuous and rapid technological evolution, which some have already proposed as a new historical, technological and social acceleration. Physics, and in particular Applied Physics, is a link that can avoid what was called a technological gap, allowing us to establish contact between natural phenomena and technological and applied "phenomena". This will favor the development of companies related to new materials and the environment such as polymers, new fuels and refrigerants, ionic liquids, physical pollutants, meteorological and / or oceanic aspects related to the environment, etc. What is learned Students can choose from three specialties. Physics Applied to Materials Physics Applied to the Environment Applied laser technologies Students can integrate into one of these lines of research: Thermofísica de Liquidos Science and Technology of Polymers Applied Physics of the Environment Applied Laser Technologies Computational Physics Lines of investigation These are the... General objectives The aim of the Ph.D. program in Physics is not limited to give continuity to the Degree and Master courses in Physics offered at UIB. Since its inception, this Program has had a proper outreach and has attracted many students from other universities in Spain and abroad. A main reason is that the Program offers an academic and professional training at the highest scientific level and puts the focus on the capacity to face and solve problems and make original contributions to knowledge in various fields of physics. The Program offers a multidisciplinary perspective of Physics and more specific knowledge on the research lines detailed in that section, in which the institutions supporting the program (the Department of Physics of UIB, IFISC and IMEDEA) have accredited international prestige. The quality of the Ph.D. Program in Physics preceding the present one was recognized as early as in 2004, being awarded with the Quality Mention of ANECA. The Quality Mention was maintained in each of the follow-ups and renovations until it was replaced by the Excellence Mention (obtained in 2011). The challenge of the new Program is to follow the same path of excellence and internationalization, as a way to keep attracting students from other universities. Lines of research Relativity and Astrophysics. Meteorology, Physical Oceanography and Climate Physics. Materials Physics. Applications to engineering. Quantum Physics and Statistical Physics. Needs for Novel Doctoral Training Strategies

The scientific, technological and economic importance of optics and photonics contrasts with its minor role in the German university system. The curricula of the traditional disciplines do not provide a profound optics and photonics education. Thus, the initial stages of diploma or doctoral theses have to serve as “training-on-the-job”, addressing only special aspects rather than the entire field of optics and photonics.

The leading graduate schools that specifically focus on optics and photonics are mainly located in the U.S. (e.g., CREOL, Orlando, Florida; Rochester, New York; Tucson, Arizona) and have developed into world renowned centers for science and technology. Importantly, the optics and photonics research at these institutions is complemented by corresponding undergraduate and graduate education programs. In this respect there is need of a new educational approach in Germany. Hence, we have developed and implemented both M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs in the area of “Optics & Photonics”. The M.Sc. course provides an adequate education, spanning the bridge between undergraduate optics classes and the required in-depth knowledge that is essential for cutting-edge research. The best students enter the Ph.D. program and find the ideal ground for world-class research. Their thesis work benefits from the multidisciplinary character of the “Karlsruhe School of Optics & Photonics (KSOP)”.... [-]
