Technology Innovation

Requirements for the PhD program often involve the student having already obtained a Master’s degree. Additionally, a thesis or dissertation primarily consisting of original academic research must be submitted. In some countries, this work may even need to be defended in front of a panel.

Technology innovation is the discipline of developing original technologies and finding practical uses for them. Courses and programs in this field often teach students to address problems they see in the world by designing and marketing products that creatively combat these issues.

There are more than four thousand higher education organizations in Europe, from leading research institutions to small, teaching-focused universities. Europe itself is not as much different than other continents, reaching from the Arctic Circle to the coast of Africa.

Doctoral Degrees in Technology Innovation in Europe 2017/2018. The goal of the PhD programme is to prepare the next generation of leading researchers. The PhD is a programme of independent, self-directed academic research degree, supported by a team of supervisors that makes an original contribution to knowledge written up in a publishable dissertation. The PhD programme also supports the development of research and generic skills to equip you to operate successfully as a professional researcher in any setting. The essential requirement of a PhD is the creation of new knowledge. Being a researcher means developing new ideas and improving understanding through the creation of new knowledge. Your research will inevitably build to some degree on the work and ideas of others, but as a research student you are expected to make an original contribution to knowledge in your discipline. Each PhD student must take a number of online modules and also complete a dissertation. Students must defend their dissertation in a “viva voce” (spoken) examination. The viva voce examination is an intense and challenging experience, but we offer workshops and mock examinations to help our research students prepare and almost all research students who reach this stage go on to successfully complete their degree. Students can engage in research in one of the following fields of study: Marketing Management Information and Technology Education Business Administration Accounting and Finance Programme Outline Core Units UU-PhD-801 Quantitative and Qualitative Research Methods UU-PhD-802 Current Issues in Management UU-PhD-803 Leadership UU-PhD-820 Web-based Information Systems UU-PhD-INTEC-900-1... Doctoral Degrees in Technology Innovation in Europe 2017/2018. EPSRC Future Composites Manufacturing Hub: New manufacturing techniques for optimised fibre architectures Project Description This project aims to discover new 3D textile preform architectures for high performance composite structures. Computational modelling will evaluate the utility of different textile designs within an optimisation framework, based on processing and mechanical properties, to determine the best solution for a particular application. This framework will not be constrained to architectures that can be produced using existing manufacturing technologies, such as weaving or braiding. Optimum textile preforms will be realised either by modifying existing textile processes or, where potential benefits justify, by developing entirely bespoke manufacturing technologies. Nottingham’s proprietary textile modelling software, TexGen, will be developed to produce unit cell models of non-conventional textile forms, relaxing constraints to enable groups of fibres to follow an arbitrary path in 3D space. A multi-objective optimisation framework will be developed to achieve optimum processing and mechanical properties, which will be applied to a number of case studies to identify optimum material forms. Supervisor: Prof Andrew Long Applications are invited for fully funded PhD studentships in the Composites Research Group at the University of Nottingham. There are currently 2 available positions, which are being funded by the EPSRC Future Composites Manufacturing Hub. Successful applicants will be based at Nottingham and will: Work directly with leading academics and industrial partners from the composites supply chain Have the opportunity to undertake a 3 month secondment with an industrial partner Have the opportunity to...
