PhDs in United Arab Emirates 2017. Doctor of Education - EdD The EdD is for motivated individuals wishing to further develop their research, analytical, conceptual and critical thinking skills. An EdD is a doctoral award but differs to the traditional PhD study mode in that, in part, it is a taught degree. Professionals who hold a Bolton EdD take back to their organisation a greater knowledge and a higher understanding of today's diverse educational world, gained through a programme that is research driven. About the course The EdD is designed to cause minimum disruption to your professional commitments and responsibilities. It will provide an opportunity to delve deeply into policy and practice and an opportunity to examine in depth a specific area of interest via a dissertation. You will be encouraged to shape the learning materials towards your own specialism and is therefore relevant across all sectors from early years through to higher education. Special features For some, a partly taught doctorate will provide an opportunity to complement their employment and/or interests within a research framework but within a more efficient format than an independent research project, the traditional PhD. What you will learn Students' will develop a high level of academic writing and data collection. What topics will students study on the course? As a research degree one can’t specify but will be in general areas of educational policy and practice and research methodologies. What about teaching, learning and assessment methods? Classes held on three Saturdays and will include seminars, face-to-face teaching and new technologies. Also, open Friday morning PGR student sessions. Assessment will be only on written work. You will be encouraged to bring your own education-related issues to the table as the basis for research. The programme is structured in two stages of taught and research elements. In stage one, the taught element, you will be assessed for the development and submission of a preliminary research proposal and a review of relevant literature. The stage two research element comprises of a programme of directed and independent study, leading to the development, production and defence of a critical commentary. The critical commentary is a comprehensive study of application of knowledge to a professional practice issue or issues with a shared theme. You will be working with a named supervisor, your Director of Studies, to guide and advise you through to submission and the oral examination. Entry requirements You should have a masters-level qualification in an education related subject and/or a Bachelor’s degree with a first classification. If English is not your first language you will also normally need IELTS 7.5 (or equivalent). If you do not have the required English level, you can study English with us from IELTS 4.0 (or equivalent). [-]
