The PhDs in Science and Engineering are consolidated within the Doctoral School of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris which hosts around 900 doctoral students, supervised by more than 800 researchers (including 550 HDRs).
Research rely on its 30 high-end laboratories (UMR CNRS, INRIA, CEA...), which offers a very important scientific strike force, demonstrated by their great national and international reputation and the high level of recognition achieved by the most eminent researchers.
In addition to the academic environment of excellence, the students also benefit from rich industrial connections (THALES, EDF, DANONE, etc.), allowing the development of industrial partnership in particular with industrial R&D laboratories in Saclay.
Institut Polytechnique de Paris offers doctoral training through the research component ranging from basic research to applied research.
The doctoral school of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris is extremely open to international recruitment: currently, foreign doctoral students represent 45% of Ph.D. students.
The Ph.D. program prepares students for successful scientific career opportunities (research, teaching, project management, etc.) in universities and the private sector.
The Doctoral School of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris offers multidisciplinary doctoral training and consists of six research areas:
Biology and Chemistry
Computing, Data and Artificial Intelligence
Economics, Management, and Social Sciences
Information, Communications, Electronics
Mechanical and Energetic Engineering
There are two ways to enroll for a doctorate at IP Paris:
Get into contact with a researcher/professor from one of the IP-Paris laboratories, develop in collaboration with him/her a Ph.D. project, and discuss funding possibilities. This is generally done in the middle of the M2 year when choosing research internships. Once a few compulsory documents have been collected (thesis project, CV, M2 grades, letter of support from the thesis supervisor), one must obtain the agreements from the director of the laboratory and the director of the doctoral school. Then the application can be deposited online on ADUM.
Consult the thesis proposals of IP Paris schools (École Polytechnique, ENSTA Paris, ENSAE Paris, Télécom Paris, Télécom SudParis) some of which are open for applications:

In the selection of doctoral students, the Doctoral School takes into account:
Academic results previously obtained by the applicant, in particular at the master’s level
The applicant’s research abilities, assessed notably during research internships
The relevance of the applicant’s training to the doctoral project
The originality and feasibility of the doctoral project in the context of the research unit and its partners
The relevance of the doctoral project to the scientific policy of the research team, with the consent of the research unit head upon enrollment.
The availability and capacity of the thesis supervisor and more generally all the doctoral supervisors to ensure scientific management of the doctoral project
The professional project presented by the applicant and its relevance to the doctoral project
