The Doctoral Program in Sciences in Fisheries and Aquaculture Bioeconomy was born from the academic interest of three institutions: Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas del Noroeste, SC (CIBNOR), Interdisciplinary Center of Marine Sciences - IPN ( CICIMAR ) and the Marist University of Mérida ( UMM), with the aim of training specialists of the highest level who develop analytical and numerical skills with an ecosystem approach, to carry out bioeconomic modeling, analysis, and evaluation of fisheries and aquaculture production processes, which influence decision-making regarding the establishment of catch quotas, distribution of small effort, allocation of access rights to fishing resources, closures, optimal catch or harvest times and economic optimization, among others.

The three institutions participating in this inter-institutional postgraduate course have a solid track record in research and teaching in fisheries, aquaculture, and bioeconomy matters, they have actively collaborated with each other for the training of human resources with a bioeconomy orientation, for which the capacities will be enhanced. institutions to meet the identified demand and contribute to the training of researchers who address the problems of the national and Latin American fishing and aquaculture sector.

Welcome and welcome to the Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas del Noroeste SC (CIBNOR), one of the 26 Public Research Centers of the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT), which in this month of October 2020 will be 45 years old.



In accordance with the Legal Instrument for the Creation of our Research Center, we have, among others, as our essential objective to carry out basic and applied research activities aimed at solving problems related to the use, management, and conservation of natural resources. to promote sustainable development at the local, regional and national levels.



This new administration of CIBNOR for the period 2019 to 2024, coincides both with the beginning of this new six-year term and with the beginning of the new General Directorate of CONACYT. Both the National Development Plan 2019-2024, as well as the CONACYT Restructuring Plan 2019-2024, essentially highlight the need to promote the Use, Management, and Conservation of Natural Resources of our country to generate Sustainable Development that effectively contributes to the product development. And also that it contributes, very especially, to solving and mitigating the problems of the most vulnerable and least favored sectors, but also to the conservation of our biocultural wealth, through the social appropriation of scientific knowledge that, day by day, we are generating in this institution.



At CIBNOR we are firmly committed to scientific activity of excellence and relevance, both with solving problems in our society and with the conservation and protection of our environment. Likewise, the results of the activities that we develop in our Research Center have undoubtedly positioned this Public Research Center of CONACYT, as one of the most solid and efficient institutions to favorably achieve the national objectives and goals declared in both documents. rectors that govern the national scientific endeavor.
