Introduction

The language of instruction is German. German and Slavic Studies is a paid program; the annual tuition fee is 1,000 CZK.

Admission procedure: in two parts

Contents and subjects of the entrance examination:

First part (max. 30 points)

1.Evaluation of the dissertation project

Evaluation criteria:

·clearly formulated and at a good technical level, minor deficiencies: 23–30 points;

·clearly formulated and at a good technical level, more serious but acceptable deficiencies: 15–22 points;

·weak, unconvincing, only hypothetical prospects for a successful project completion: 7-14 points;

  • inadequate, without any orientation in the problem: 0–6 points.

All applicants who achieve at least 15 points in the first part will be invited to the second part.

second (oral) part (max. 30 points)

1. Technical discussion of the submitted dissertation project: 0–15 points;

2. Assessment of previous professional activity and studies: 0–5 points;

3.Knowledge of research literature on the topic: 0–10 points

Further examination conditions:

Knowledge of German at least at level B2 (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), i.e. applicants should be able to read research literature independently and understand linguistic/literary lectures and discussions. The admission interview will be held partly in German. The oral expression of the applicant will also be taken into account when assessing all parts of the exam. Since English skills at least at level B2 are required for studying at a partner university, part of the oral entrance exam will be held in English at the applicant's discretion.

Recommended topics of the dissertation projects:

·Higher levels of the language system of Germanic and Slavic languages (functional morphology, syntax, text syntax and linguistics, stylistics, lexicology, pragmatics) in the perspective of theoretical debates or application

Historical development of the Germanic and Slavic languages

literary theory

·Literary history with a focus on Germanic and Slavic research areas

·Cultural history with a focus on Germanic and Slavic research areas

Comparative Literature

The applicants discuss the selected topic in advance with the head of the relevant specialist council, doc. Mgr. Libuše Heczková, Ph.D.
