PhD in Area Studies

The doctoral study program Area Studies focuses on various aspects of the contemporary (since 1990) development of Europe and North America, as well as on theoretical and methodological issues in the field of Area Studies. This is a unique study program in the Czech Republic, which provides a highly demanding multidisciplinary education combining the approaches of all key social sciences (political science, international relations, sociology, modern history, law, economics, etc.). The program is widely international and provides a wide range of opportunities to study and work around the world. It is provided by top experts, including regularly returning foreign professors. The program is realized at the Institute of International Studies (IMS), which is characterized by a friendly and welcoming environment. According to the topic of the dissertation and their territorial orientation, the students of the program are assigned to individual IMS departments, where they participate in scientific, pedagogical, and other activities.
