Introduction
Specialisms include Church History, Wesley Studies/Wesleyan Tradition, Christian Theology, Old Testament Studies/Second Temple/Inter-Testamental Studies, New Testament Studies, and Biblical Theology, Practical Theology, Missiology.
Full-time and flexible part-time routes available for research degrees. The registration period of full-time study is 12 months for the MPhil and 36 months for the PhD. The registration period for part-time study is 24 months for the MPhil and 72 months for the PhD.
The College is also home to the Manchester Wesley Research Centre, a collaborative venture involving a growing number of partner institutions interested in studies within the Wesleyan tradition. The MWRC is affiliated with the Methodist Archives, housed in The John Rylands Library. These research centres provide magnificent resources for students and researchers in this field.
Nazarene Theological College is an approved partner of The University of Manchester, delivering programs developed by Nazarene Theological College, approved by and leading to the University of Manchester.
Candidates for the MPhil or PhD must normally demonstrate the following:
A Bachelors (Honours) degree at 2:1 level or above (or its international equivalent) in a related subject; and
A UK Masterโs degree with an overall average of 65% or higher, with a minimum of 65% in the dissertation and no mark below 55% (or its international equivalent) in Religions and Theology or a related subject.
Any strong, relevant work experience will be considered on a case by case basis.
Candidates without formal research experience (i.e., a dissertation) will normally be required to undertake all or part of an MA as the first stage of the research program. Applicants whose first language is not English need to demonstrate their English proficiency. Postgraduate (Research) students need a minimum IELTS score of 7.0, or its equivalent, overall.
