To facilitate learning and research, the School is equipped with high-tech and innovative facilities such as digital design studios, digital space labs and modeling workshops; and a state-of-the-art Field Environmental Chamber which was commissioned for studies in Total Building Performance. Our research is supported by five research centres.


Supporting our drive towards academic and research excellence is our pool of dedicated teaching staff who bring about a diversified melting pot of expertise, insights and inspiration.

Department of Architecture


The Department of Architecture aims to excel as a regional centre for advanced research in architectural design, technology, urbanism, architectural history and theory. It seeks to equip design professionals with critical knowledge and expertise to meet the developmental challenges of the Asian region. Anticipating new kinds of cities emerging throughout Asia, the Department addresses issues that demand fresh designs and planning solutions that are engaged with the contemporary reality of “borderless” economies and technological advancements.

Department of Building


The Department of Building has achieved international recognition for its core competencies in Total Building Perfomance and Construction Management and Economics. It has established strategic links with world-class institutions with whom it is actively engaged in relevant cutting-edge research. Particular emphasis is directed towards the development and delivery of integrated and high performance buildings throughout the entire building delivery process involving design, construction, maintenance and management.

Department of Real Estate


The Department of Real Estate is recognized internationally as one of the strongest research groups in the real estate academic field in Asia. The faculty members’ research areas include real estate finance and investment, urban and housing economics, urban planning and urban studies. Their work has been widely published in various internationally refereed economics, finance and real estate journals.

Division of Industrial Design


The Industrial Design Programme started in 1999 as the only Industrial Design course offered at University level in Singapore. The primary focus of the programme is design innovation, and strategic thinking – with an eye for new markets to enable graduates to penetrate the global market place with new ideas and products.


The programme’s students have been successful in achieving creditable results by winning or being placed in a large number of local and international design competitions. The most notable awards include the Luminary Awards of Red Dot Concept Award 2005 & 2006 and the Grand Winner of BraunPrize 2007.
