OSU's Doctorate of Philosophy in Chemical engineering is a discipline focused on conceiving and designing processes to produce, transform and transport materials-beginning with experimentation in the laboratory followed by implementation of the technology.

At OSU, we develop human resources, professional knowledge, and the infrastructure through which chemical engineering can contribute to human welfare. We expect to maintain national recognition for our contributions. Traditional careers are in the chemical, energy and oil industries, with increasing opportunities in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.

Admission to either the Master of Science or Doctor of Philosophy degree program requires graduation from a chemical engineering curriculum approved by the ABET or a recognized equivalent from any international program.

Students with undergraduate degrees in other engineering disciplines or closely-related fields, such as chemistry, physics, mathematics, or biological sciences, are evaluated on an individual basis and a specific plan of study is developed for each student. This plan may include an additional 10 – 15 semester credit hours of undergraduate courses in Chemical Engineering. Admission is competitive based on undergraduate GPA, GRE and TOEFL (for international students), statement of background and goals, research experience and interests, and recommendations.

Admissions Option 2

Almost all doctoral students are supported by a graduate teaching or research assistantships which come with a tuition waiver and a minimum stipend of $2,300 per month. Many Masters students also receive graduate teaching or research assistantships. Students are responsible for university and college fees. If a non-resident student enrolls in 20 credit hours in a year, they will be responsible for approximately $6,800 in fees. Additional scholarships are also available in the college and individual schools.

Scholarships and Funding Option 2

The general credit requirement is 60 credit hours beyond the BS degree, including 24 credit hours of research and 36 credit hours of classwork. Students must be enrolled in CHE 6010, Chemical Engineering Seminar, during the Fall and Spring semesters. The courses must include

Curriculum

All graduate students admitted to the program are provided financial support, which includes an assistantship, tuition waiver, and subsidized health insurance. Every applicant is automatically considered for financial support and no additional information is required. The School of Chemical Engineering also awards a number of scholarships, which are funded by alumni and industry partners.
