Introduction

The Doctorate in Biological Sciences is a postgraduate program recognized for its HIGH QUALITY at the Consolidation level granted by CONACYT in the National Quality Postgraduate Program (PNPC).

The program offers two modalities: the Direct one from the Bachelor's degree with a duration of 48 months (4 years) and the Traditional one from the Master's degree of 36 months (3 years). The postgraduate course is research-oriented, so that its graduates achieve research training with the skills to carry out original and innovative research and be considered valuable individuals by their employers. The graduates are distinguished by their social commitment, responsible in their learning, in social needs, in contributing to the development of the country, persevering in achieving the proposed goals, and tolerance when there are discrepancies.

The PhD focuses on solving needs in the following lines of research:

  1. Toxicology and Environmental Bioengineering
  2. Plant and Animal Biotechnology and Biochemistry
  3. bioremediation
  4. Ecology and Biodiversity
  5. Proteins in the Immune Response in Neural Plasticity and Secretion

goals

Train researchers with solid preparation in various fields of biological sciences, capable of generating and applying knowledge, identifying problems at a national level and proposing solutions in their areas of work, as well as participating in the training of human resources at the level of postgraduate studies and in the development of interdisciplinary research projects.

Graduation profile

Knowledge.

The graduate must have solid knowledge of the fundamentals and the most recent advances in the area of Biological Sciences.

Skills.

The graduate will have the ability to:

  • Select and design the models that allow guiding experimental development, in the area of biological sciences, to the generation of basic knowledge and the solution of problems related to human or veterinary health, agriculture, industry and the environment. environment, local, regional or national.
  • Able to generate and apply the appropriate instrumental and methodological techniques to obtain the required information and will have the ability to modify these techniques, if necessary, as well as to interpret the generated results and draw conclusions from them.

The purpose of the pre-doctoral exam is to verify that the student has the knowledge and skills required to successfully complete his thesis project and opt for the degree of Doctor of Science.

The characteristics of the predoctoral exam are:

  • Students entering from undergraduate must take the pre-doctoral exam during the fourth, fifth or sixth semester of the program. The choice of the date will be made by the student himself in agreement with his thesis advisor. Students who have entered the program with a Master's degree must take the pre-doctoral exam in the first two semesters of joining it.
  • The presentation of this exam will be done before a jury made up of five synods appointed by the Dean of the Center for Basic Sciences. The decisions made by this jury will be by majority. The requirements to form part of the jury are the same as those established for the synodal exams for the degree exam. The thesis advisor will be part of this jury. The jury of the predoctoral exam will evaluate the following aspects of the student:
    • Academic performance in the postgraduate course and knowledge acquired.
    • Presentation and defense of the progress of your thesis project.
  • The possible results of the pre-doctoral examination are: Accredited, Accredited with Recommendations, or Not Accredited.
