Introduction
Doctorate in Cultural Studies
The following are the general objectives of the Program:
provide doctoral students with an advanced training in cultural studies clearly grounded in uptodate theory.
develop advanced methodological competences in cultural studies and promote the execution of original research projects which will contribute to a better understanding of culture from different perspectives and in its intersystemic relations.
provide incentives for a specialised training in cultural studies which will give value to interdisciplinary dialogue, interculturality and multiple perspectives..
promote a healthy collaborative attitude amongst all those involved in the Doctoral Program in Cultural Studies, as well as with other partners that may become involved.

Program Outcome
Intended learning outcomes (knowledge, skills and competences) to be developed by the students:
It is anticipated that the graduates of this doctoral Program will either obtain or consolidate the following skills:
- Sociocultural competence obtained to a high degree and which privileges the deepening of theories, of study methods of analysis and cultural commentary in the various domains which are the object of research.
- Competence in conceiving, planning and executing in an autonomous manner research of the highest level in cultural studies.
- Capacity to reflect critically, especially on cultural phenomena, and be able to draw together a understanding of complex ideas.
- The ability to open up an interdisciplinary dialogue in order to make connections between diverse tendencies in cultural studies, but also with other bodies of knowledge with which they are in constant interaction.
- Communicative competences and literary cultural abilities which enable them to transmit information about the studies they have carried out.

Career Opportunities
The MTSS has not made any data available regarding this cycle of studies. However, it should be noted that at the Lisbon Summit (2000) the Heads of State and Government of the member countries of the European Union committed to the goal of turning the EU into "the world’s most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy, capable of sustained economic growth with more and better jobs and greater social cohesion".
Following these assumptions, a recent European Commission report titled "The economy of culture in Europe" (2006) argues that the development of the sector of culture and creativity has a very positive impact on employment, since it "provides a huge variety of employment opportunities, often involving high-level skills." In addition, the report considers that the cultural sector currently plays a key role in boosting many areas of the European economy, and especially technological innovation.
