Introduction
Doctorate in Political Science
This doctoral Program aims, generally, to provide high quality advanced training in Political Science, and generate valuable contributions to research in this area.
The main teaching language of the curricular component is dependent on the student body. If it includes PhD students who do not understand Portuguese, the main teaching language is English (as in 2019/20 and 2020/21). That said, students can always do the assignments and assessment; participate orally; and ask for clarifications in either language. Note that, regardless of the teaching language, the readings to be carried out are predominantly in English.
This doctoral program is offered in partnership between the University of Aveiro (UA) and the University of Beira Interior (UBI), allowing the joining of resources from two quality universities in the area of Political Science.
The Program is structured around four areas, covering classical domains of Political Science (political philosophy; comparative politics), together with the new territories of this science (governance; political communication).
The PhD is thus open to doctoral students who wish to engage in high level research in these four fields: comparative politics; political communication; political philosophy; and governance.
The partnership underlying this PhD Program is based on the mutually complementary character of both Universities
