Introduction
This PhD embraces multiple fields of knowledge in the management sciences, such as Marketing, Finance, Logistics and Operations Management, Information Systems, Human Resource Management and Strategy.
The Universidade Europeia 's PhD in Management was accredited by the national agency in June 2013 and had its authorization renewed in 2018, for a period of 6 years (the maximum that the national agency A3ES can grant). In turn, the reduced numbers provide a selection of highly capable candidates. Currently, this program already has 13 theses completed and is attended by 23 doctoral students.
The first year is dedicated to the acquisition of conceptual knowledge and the mastery of methodological tools. The focus is placed on qualitative and quantitative methods, research design, publication techniques, epistemology and the latest trends in the aforementioned fields of knowledge.
The completion of the doctoral thesis throughout the second and third years is accompanied by tutorial sessions and a program of seminars with themes that are located at the bifurcation points of the future of related areas. In this context, priority is given to research in border areas between Management Sciences and other disciplinary branches. The paths of doctorates, doctoral students and external stakeholders, national and foreign, who share their trajectories and experiences are also presented.
During their third cycle, doctoral students are invited and encouraged to publish and participate in international scientific conferences, organized in Portugal and abroad.
Why the PhD in Management?
A flexible program
The post-working hours and the possibility of choosing to attend full-time (3 years) or part-time (5 years) gives the opportunity to adjust the study cycle to the professional and personal reality of each doctoral student.
State-of-the-art pedagogical and didactic means
The Universidade Europeia offers advanced logistical and technological means. Electronic access tools (Campus Online; Blackboard), as well as the necessary software for research (IBM SPSS; MAXQDA; NVivo; Idea Puzzle) and a bibliographic collection in documentary and digital format with access to scientific reference publications (B-ON ) constitute some of the numerous instruments placed at the service of students.
A personalized accompaniment
At Universidade Europeia , the doctoral student is at the center. The reduced number of staff per class allows to accompany each student individually. The preparation of the doctoral thesis begins in the first year with the identification of the problem and the respective starting question. It follows the construction and execution of the project within the scope of scheduled tutorials.
