About

Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) was first established as the School of Agriculture on May 1931 at Serdang. In June 1947 The Governor of the Malayan Union, Sir Edward Gent proclaimed it as the College of Agriculture Malaya.

Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) was first established as the School of Agriculture on May 1931 at Serdang. In June 1947 The Governor of the Malayan Union, Sir Edward Gent proclaimed it as the College of Agriculture Malaya.

By merging the College of Agriculture Malaya with the Faculty of Agriculture of Universiti Malaya, Universiti Pertanian Malaysia was incorporated on 29th October 1971. On 3rd April 1997, the former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced the change in name to Universiti Putra Malaysia, to reflect the variety of disciplines offered by the university and its proximity to Putrajaya, the new Malaysian administration capital.
