Introduction
The Ph.D. program in European Studies provides students with scientific expertise in matters related to both the critical study of Europe today (its institutional frame and policies) and the cultural studies of the European space largo sensu. The program trains students for research and research methodology in compliance with the current requirements of academic knowledge.
The Ph.D. program in European Studies provides students with a contemporary and specialized education and allows them to acquire scientific expertise. The program trains students for research and research methodology in compliance with the current requirements of academic knowledge, being aware of the data of new European reality.
Graduate students of this program may work in various sectors and institutions of the Republic of Cyprus as well as in the European Union, such as academic teaching, public and private teaching, cultural and linguistic services, public services, international institutions, diplomatic corps, translation centers, tourism and hotel industry, media, multinational companies, NGOs.

Structure
- Compulsory: 180 ECTS
- Recognition of prior studies: 60 ECTS
- Total ECTS: 240 ECTS
Graduation Requirements
- Successful completion of the requirements of the Program
- Up to 60 ECTS may be exempted from postgraduate courses.
Program Outcome
Upon completion of the PhD in European Studies, students will be able to demonstrate:
- specialized knowledge and understanding of a distinct period and fields within the broad spectrum of European Studies
- the ability to develop complex interpretations of literary and related texts, often in interdisciplinary contexts
- ability to critically apply theories and methodologies to address questions of significance within their primary area of studies
- competence to carry out independent and original research in the fields of the Humanities (literature, culture, visual arts, history, political sciences, sociology and anthropology)
- ability to present the results of their research to a professional standard equivalent to that of a peer-reviewed academic publication
- skills in oral presentation and sufficient confidence in their knowledge and ideas to be able to defend their work before their peers
- wider engagement within the community of scholars (ability to disseminate knowledge, defend the impact and public value of their research, and engage in research collaborations)
