Sustainable development refers to the study of economic development being maintained without exploiting resources, such as unacceptable amounts of natural resources, excessive pollution, people, and communities. Coming to the program with a master’s degree and preferably related experience, PhD Sustainable Development candidates will work to question, develop, analyze and enhance the global understanding of sustainable development.
PhD Sustainable Development candidates may choose to work on research projects in one or many disciplines, relating to the economic, sociological or environmental aspects of sustainability. Candidates pursuing a PhD Sustainable Development degree should be prepared to invest at least three years in a research project aimed at a final dissertation and publication. Work on other research projects, teaching and assisting undergraduate students, or authoring papers are also possible responsibilities for a PhD Sustainable Development candidate.
