Such a university is characterised by systematic cooperation with the companies and authorities of the surrounding society, what we call partnership. Education and research is not a one-sided commitment for the University of Borås but is planned, carried out and evaluated in cooperation with our partners. The professions' competence needs, their development and problems take centre stage. An important part of the idea of a University of professions is the development of new forms of examination. The University of Borås wants to create educational programmes with the degree of master of professions and doctor of professions in the Swedish system of examination. We see the realisation of the University of professions as not only a question of a government decision but primarily as a gradual quality and profiling process. An important stop on that path is the establishment of a new area of professions, a seventh department, at the seat of learning. The University is working hard at establishing educational programmes focusing on risk, security and safety aspects, for example, an academic police training programme.

Welcome to the School of Business, Economics, and Law! Sweden and the Swedish business world have had a great deal of international success over the past 100 years. A couple of important factors of success include understanding and respect for other cultures and human context, which results in the realization that there are no general solutions to local problems. A specific type of leadership and a unique approach to both a commercial enterprise and taking responsibility… [+] have been developed, both of which have garnered international respect. Research at the School of Business, Economics, and Law helps clarify this leadership and approach to taking responsibility and makes a conveyance to students, our leaders of tomorrow, possible. Our roots are in local business, which has an international focus and recognizes the importance of high-level research and education - just as was the case when the School was founded. This creates unique cooperation and lays the groundwork for future competitiveness in Sweden. Our business cooperation is also reflected in the School's international work, which is developed in intimate dialogue with our partners. As we form strategic partnerships with leading universities in China and India, we make sure we do so in areas where our partner companies are increasing their presence. The School of Business, Economics, and Law has set lofty goals. We aim to educate internationally attractive students who have adopted a responsible attitude towards social development and to perform top-quality research that helps identify solutions to complex global problems. The prerequisites already exist; some examples are a breadth of disciplines, motivated and committed researchers, close cooperation and constant dialogue with the business and public sectors, ambitious and creative students and an international focus that has existed for 85 years.

As a relatively young university, it’s free of the traditions that obstruct innovation and creativity. For instance, LiU was the first Swedish university to embrace interdisciplinary teaching and research – blending technology, sciences and the humanities. LiU advocates sharing and collaboration, rather than isolationism and ”keeping my stuff to myself”. Students from overseas appreciate Linköping University’s flat hierarchies and hands-on approach. You address your lecturers and professors by their first name. Labs at LiU have enough capacity that you can often do some actual lab work yourself. Business successes Sweden’s population is just less than ten million – not much by world standards. But the country certainly punches above its weight in the business sector. Successful businesses born in Sweden include IKEA, H&M, Volvo, Scania, SAAB, Ericsson, TetraPak, AtlasCopco, Skype, Spotify and Mojang – the developers of Minecraft. Life in Sweden So how is life in Sweden? Well, the winters are actually a delight – provided you rug up properly. Accommodation is comfortable; with central heating and industrial-strength insulation, you’ll stay warm while it’s snowy outside. Prices are much on a par with the UK and rents are reasonable. People can be a little reserved but are helpful and friendly once you get them talking. Bikes and Hikes International master’s students at Linköping University love the easy lifestyle on offer in the twin towns of Linköping and Norrköping. A bicycle is the best way to get around, usually on separate bike lanes – that are even ploughed in winter. The surrounding region is beautiful, with easy access to lakes, hiking areas and wilderness, and the national capital of Stockholm is only about 90 minutes away by train. Because most Swedish master’s programmes at LiU are two-years long, you have plenty of time for a life outside your studies. So you don’t just leave with a degree. You learn, but you also live. Welcome to the Department of Biology Education The Department of Biology Education is unique at Stockholm University in that we do not have any research, we coordinate the biology education and are almost entirely administrative. Biology was one of the first subjects taught at Stockholm University and both the department as well as several of the teachers have received pedagogical awards. The Department of Biology Education (BIG) is the only department at Stockholm University… [+] that does not have any research. BIG deals exclusively with matters of biology education, coordinating the teaching across the biological research departments. Because BIG mainly employs administrative staff it is likely also the smallest department at Stockholm University. See also Organisation. Biology was one of the first subjects taught when Stockholm University was founded as lectures in botany and zoology were held in the spring of 1879. The first full-time teacher at the university taught zoology. The general biology education began in the 1970's, partly due to new developing fields and partly as a response to changing needs in society and the job market. The new education placed great demands on the coordination between biology departments, and so was created what was to become the Department of Biology Education (BIG). In 1998 BIG was awarded 'Educational Department of the year'. And several of the teachers on the courses offered at BIG have received the university's Award for Good Teaching: Ki Winbladh, Department of Zoology (1993) Owe Jansson, previously Department of Botany (1996) Tore Bengtsson, previously the Wenner-Gren Institute for Experimental Biology (1999) Gunnel Skoog, Department of Zoology (2002) Margareta Ohné, previously Department of Genetics, Microbiology and Toxicology (2007) Biology studies at BIG At the Department of Biology Education, we offer high-quality education in which you can develop your knowledge, critical thinking and practical skills in close connection to world-leading research. Our courses and programmes cover the breadth of biology from molecular life sciences to ecology. Make biology studies with us part fo your future. Department of Biology Education is located at the Frescati campus of Stockholm University. Surrounded by nature in the Royal National City Park the campus has excellent public transport connections providing easy and quick access to central Stockholm (see reasons to study in Stockholm, Sweden). A safe, innovative, sustainable and beautiful city; Stockholm is considered one of the world’s most desirable cities in which to study. Strong research connection Biology research at Stockholm University is a window into understanding the biological life of our planet. Whether it is aspects of genome biology, greenhouse gas producing Baltic clams, the costs of advanced brains or natural resource management our teachers are active researchers at the forefront of their respective fields. This ensures our courses have a close connection to current research during your studies. Challenging learning environment Lectures, seminars, group work and practical laboratory sessions combine to increase both your theoretical knowledge as well as practical skills. Our small class sizes allow a lot of opportunities to interact with professors and researchers as well as each other during discussions. You will gain essential skills so that you can critically analyse and apply established methods to current research questions.
IT University is a joint organization between the Chalmers University of Technology and University of Gothenburg, to support research, education, and collaboration within IT and communication (ICT). The focus of the network is on interdisciplinary projects and tasks, that involve several departments and faculties. There is also a focus on collaboration between academy, industry, and society in ICT-related issues. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is shared… [+] between Chalmers and Gothenburg University and conducts research and education in many fields: algorithms, computer architecture, computer security, distributed systems, electronics design, formal methods, logic, networking, software technology, software engineering, language technology and reliable computer systems. Almost 150 different courses at some 20-degree programs on graduate and postgraduate level. Research at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering The Department of Computer Science and Engineering conducts extensive, high-quality, broad-based research, ranging from basic research to direct applications in collaboration with industry. Research at the department is at the forefront internationally in several areas. Different aspects of reliability, in the development of both software and hardware, are a common theme in several of the department’s research groups. One example is basic research into how programming languages should be designed to make it easier to write error-free programs. Another example is a methodology for developing reliability in the complex computer systems that are built into, for example, aircrafts.
