Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) is the leading business school in the Nordics with a unique business community network, private funding and little dependence on government support. For more than a century, SSE has educated talented women and men for leading positions within the business community and the public sector.
SSE offers bachelor and master programs along with highly regarded Ph.D., MBA, and Executive Education programs. About 2,000 students are registered in programs at various levels.

In 1999, SSE became the first business school in Sweden to receive world’s leading international accreditation for business school, EQUIS and has maintained the accreditation ever since. Further, SSE is the only Swedish member institution of CEMS (The Global Alliance in Management Education) and PIM (Partnership in International Management).

PhD in Business Administration

Campus Full time 4 years August 2018 Sweden Stockholm

The PhD Program in Business Administration at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) prepares our graduates to be successful researchers or to advance in their chosen careers. The doctoral program fosters close interaction between students and faculty, and every doctoral student belongs to a research group specializing in a particular field of research. Our faculty members are active in the area of Business Administration and excellent teachers who keep up-to-date in their disciplines through research and publication. [+]

The PhD Program in Business Administration is a four-year, full-time, residential program taught in English. SSE does not offer distance learning, or allow for part-time studies.

The 240 ECTS credits of the PhD Program in Business Administration are divided into a course component (90 ECTS) and a dissertation component (150 ECTS). A specially designed course program, Stockholm-Uppsala Business Studies (SUBS), is run jointly with Uppsala University and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and offers four mandatory courses (30 ECTS) in the first semester of the program.

Starting from the first year, you will be working on your thesis which is equivalent to 150 ECTS. In this process, you will be supervised by one SSE faculty member (primary supervisor) from the very beginning. After you have submitted a dissertation proposal in the second year, you will work with a supervision committee of 3-4 professors to complete your PhD dissertation. PhD in Economics

The PhD Program in Economics at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) combines the advantages of a small department with close and informal connection to faculty, with the breadth of courses and seminars associated with a larger department. [+]

The PhD Program in Economics is a five-year, full-time, residential program taught in English. SSE does not offer distance learning, or allow for part-time studies.

In order to receive a PhD degree in Economics from SSE, you must earn 240 ECTS. These credits consist of a coursework component (105 ECTS) and a dissertation component (135 ECTS).

The core courses (60 ECTS) of the Stockholm Doctoral Course Program in Economics, Econometrics and Finance (SDPE) are compulsory and should be completed in your first year of study. In the second year you can choose from a large selection of elective courses (45 ECTS). In the beginning of your second year of study, you find a subject field for your dissertation and decide on a SSE faculty member for your supervisor; you will be conducting dissertation research in your final two to three years. The PhD Program in Finance is a five-year, full-time, residential program taught in English. SSE does not offer distance learning, or allow for part-time studies.

In order to receive a PhD degree in Finance from SSE, you must earn 240 ECTS. These credits consist of a coursework component (105 ECTS) and a dissertation component (135 ECTS).

In the first year, the coursework component consists of seven courses (45 ECTS) integrated in the SDPE program, and two additional finance courses (15 ECTS). In the second year, the coursework consists of three finance courses (22,5 ECTS), as well as elective courses (22,5 ECTS), where you can take more finance courses, including shorter mini courses on specialized areas in finance, or topic courses in economics. In year 3-5, you will be working on your thesis which is equivalent to 135 ECTS. The program ends with a thesis defense.... [-]
